Scene and User files on SD card

Everyone probably knows this already, however I just accidentally figured out that in addition to the four sets of scene files that you can save on an SD card you can also save four user files...for a total of eight files on a card.

Yes, but scene files and user files serve a different purpose. User files contain all of the camera settings like LCD/EVF configuration, iris control etc.

It's great for people who rent cameras, it lets them take a random camera and within seconds configure to their likeing.

Yup, I use the user file on a card to reset the settings to my prefs after someone has used it...but I didn't realize you could put both types of files on the same card. The manual makes it sound like you could only do four (scene or user) files (or at least that is how I interpreted it).

Its handy to have a single SD card with a particular clients scene files and the user settings for TC, aspect, safety zone, zebras etc...I've been on so many recurring shoots where the camera op is asking what the zebras or aspect were set at last time etc...

I keep scene files, user files, metadata files, and the V4.06 firmware on my card. If you use the IR remote, you can record photo stills to the card as well.

Awesome info...didn't realize you could do that!!

What I would like to see (firmware update?) is the ability to save your scene files in camera, as we can do now, but it also saves the rest of the settings with it, like the user file does. For example, I'd like to have scene files that go news, 24pn, 30pn, slomo (60 frame), action (20 or 22 frame). Having to load a user file each time I want to switch is an extra step. Basically I would like to see the "scene file selector" become a "user file selector", which allows for the changing of all the settings.
