How do I get best quality PAL slow motion?

Following guidelines from Barry Green's great book I am still struggling to get really good slow motion, or at least not as good as some of the slo mo footage I have seen from other users on this site - for PAL users Barry says to film interlaced & to change shutter speed to 1/100 - the closest i can get is 1/100.2 using the syncro scan function. I presume this is near as damn it but when i put my footage into prem pro 1.5 & slow it down to 50% then render my footage still as 50i I still get quite a lot of motion blur. As i say I have seen much better footage on here with no such motion blur & very sharp beautiful images but it's always been from ntsc users. Am i missing out an important process when rendering in premiere? Should i be deinterlacing or something or is it that 1/100.2 is not quite 1/100, or am I doing it right & maybe my original footage just sucks & I should accept how it is?? Please can anyone put me out of my misery

The cause of motion blur derives from recording fast moving object with slower shutter speed. Now here 1/100.2 is quite fast, but may not be fast enough for a faster moving object :P ...

I recommend you to shoot a rather slower moving object (not really slow J) with the above mentioned shutter speed ... I think you will get a cleaner motion-blur-free footage as you slowing down the pace of your moving object gradually ... Try it and reply ASAP !

Any suggestions ...

Hey Ade4all,
I see you're infesting the same part of the world as me :)

HaroonGhauree has a point - at 1/100th you won't get a sharp image of say a moving car, without panning to follow the action.
What are you shooting?

hey thanks for the advice both of you, yes i think it's because not only are the people moving, but so is the camera (though slowly using steadicam merlin). when i lock the camera down & focus on the folks doin their thing (kind of a silly slow disco-waltz for want of a better description) it works much better. I'm putting together a little music video for a band by the way. So i guess i'm not doing anything technically wrong just have to realise that quicker the movement the greater the blur. Wondering if increasing the shutter speed to 1/200 will make it sharper or would i have to reduce the speed to 25% on my edit timeline to mantain quality - am i just making the maths up here (tho that slow may also work quite nicely)? guess the best way is to try it & see
Tis a small world indeed ben-s, what kind of stuff are you up to in this little city of ours, would be goodto know?

Glad to hear you've got somewhere :)
You could help things by upping your shutter speed to 1/200 or even higher.
You'll need more light if you want to keep the same aperture though.

What's the Merlin like? I've been half-heartedly looking at them and wishing I had more cash...

I'm not doing a lot outside of "real" work at the moment, unfortunately.
I do have a couple of projects floating about, but I'm waiting on other people to finish the writing side of things.

I'd love to see your production when you're done.

the merlin's great fun though i only got it recently & definitely need to keep on with the practicing - i do mainly documentary stuff & events etc so not using it as much as i'd like - tis an expensive toy but my sisters in the u.s. alot so got a much better price over there. you're welcome to come & have a play with it sometime if you're interested.
sounds like you do narrative stuff, keep us posted if you ever need a spare pair of hands, not got a great deal of freelance work on at the moment.
be happy to show you the music thing when it's finally done, could be a while though, got to integrate a lot of animation into it at some point

I'd like to give the Merlin a go at some point. Thanks for the offer.

I work for one of the universities, so it's mainly lectures, demos, educational materials etc or promo stuff. Not a vast amount of really creative stuff, but quite fun all the same.

I'll keep you in mind if I'm short of people, either on my stuff or at work - big jobs do pop up from time to time, and overstretch the team.
