Getting 60p FS-100 footage to play back slow in an FCP 24p timeline

Apologies if this has been covered in another thread, but I can't seem to find the exact answer.

I'm working on a project that's 98% 24pn footage imported from an FS-100, all of which plays beautifully imported into FCP 5.1. The remaining 2%, however, was shot at 60p, and when I try to play these shots back in the project's 24p timeline, it requires a render. But once that's finished, the 60p footage plays back at normal speed, not slow.

Clearly there's some sort of FS-100 issue (I've gotten the gist from other threads that there's VFR update in the new FS-100 firmware) because I just used P2 cards with 60p footage and dumped those clips into a FCP 24p timeline, and they played back in slow-motion.

So, is there a workaround for the FS-100 clips I have? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
David

You need to convert those clips to 24fps clips using the Panasonic Frame Rate converter.
Depending of the version of FCP (can't remember when it started being included) it might be under your 'Tools' menu.

Otherwise you can download it from Panasonic's HVX site - it should be listed under 'Resources' or something like that. I tried finding the link for you just now - but it looks like they're doing some maintenance work on their site.

Do a search for 'panasonic frame rate converter' on this site - you'll probably find many threads about it.

Thanks for the info, Luis. I downloaded the plug-in from the Panasonic site without any problems, and the install went well, but now it's not showing up in the tools menu of my FCP. Is it possible my version (I have 5.1.4) doesn't support it? That'd be a real drag, considering I work with HD footage all the time.

Thanks,
David

The download version doesn't work with 5.1.x. Use the FRC in the Extras folder on your FCP 5.1 distribution disk. When you upgrade to the current version, it won't be a problem as 6.0.x already includes it in the installation.

Thanks for the information, Ned. I just tried loading the FRC from my FCP disk, but again, it's not showing up in my Tools menu. Is there a specific way you have to install plugins for FCP? I've tried dragging the entire folder into the Plug-ins folder, or just the FRC bundle. Nothing. And if I try and double click the FRC bundle, it opens DVD Studio. Something's fishy, no?

Thanks again,
David

Just per the documentation drag the FRC bundle into your plug-ins folder. If FCP doesn't recognize, you may want to trash your FCP prefs.

Its been posted before - but never hurts to post it again:

If you need to trash your FCP prefs, you should get .Final Cut Pro Rescue
Awesome free little utility that can backup, trash, and restore your preferences in FCP.

I trashed my prefs, then put the FRC bundle into the FCP plugins folder from the FCP install disc. Still no luck, though. I cannot get FRC to show up in the tools menu. Very frustrating.

Nonetheless, thanks for all the suggestions. (Oh, I got FCP Rescue 5, too. Very nice!)

OK, it was a simple issue--there are two different plug-ins folders for FCP, one in preferences, and one in System Support. I was trying to put it in the prefs folder, which is of course, useless.

But Ned, you're right. The download version (which WAS in the right plug-in folder) doesn't work with 5.1.x. The version from the disc installed perfectly.

Thanks again for the assistance--I'm relieved to be up and running with it again.

Is there any way to get this new frame rate converter for FCP 5.1.x from the internet? The one that comes in the extras folder?

I don't have my FCP disks at hand (overseas).

Thanks in advance.
