Nice short! I'm just not sure why the girl just left at the end. I thought it would be more dramatic if the girl took the gun, tried to shoot back and got shot at the end and while she was dying , the flash back of her baby and the soldier kept appearing in her head :-).

That would make the film focused on emotional violence. I think the message or topic of the film is the cold, isolating, numbing feeling that death brings, and how passive it can be in excess. Then again, due to the nature of film we could argue about that for the next decade, haha.

dude this looked great. you did a good job. was that a real gun shooting blanks? how were you able to have the shells pop out of the chamber?

Thanks for the feedback! The gun was authentic, I'm not sure exactly what it was though. I do know that Michael went through painstaking measures trying to find it. We had the owner on hand as a firearms expert. No rounds or blanks were fired, but we did discharge shells on the back end.

The Zeiss lenses are amazing. If I could afford it I would get a set for myself!
They are super fast and clean. I really liked the 85 and the 50 Makro!

German bolt action rifle. I'm not an 'expert', but it looked like the Kar98K. Standard issue for german infantry, and very well chosen.

Man, I only saw the first 10seconds...and Im someone who is a major hater...but that first wide tracking shot was absolutely beautiful...

edit:

finished it, wonderful job as a dp the extreme dof combined with all the tracking...and the music kinda created a surreal slow motion feeling to it which was very fitting and great....and the shots were all gorgeous...so as a DP you did a great job...unfortunately I thought the story was lacking, but the photography and editing created a great pacing and mood.

sweeeeet....you should pat yourself on the back man. great Dp'ing skills and composition. however i agree with the above poster and i had an empty feeling storywise after it was over. the only thing that kept me watching were the beautiful visuals, but i wasn't paying attention to the story after a while.

SeanEmer, I'd like to buy you a beer for your perceptive interpretation of my film and for your knowledge of WWII firearms. Yeah, it's a Mauser K98. Mickey Munday, thanks for taking a look and for the feedback. Just curious, how'd you come by that still from my film?

Stunning, looks absolutely great. I only think the constant dreamy piano keeps you away from the story and any emotional impact. Too "smooth", as is the dissolve. Even so, highly inspirational!! Thanks...

there are various stills of this short floating on various websites all over the net. i got this still from the warner brothers website.

just joking.

i got it from nathan's blog. i thought it was such a great shot, i can delete it from my post if you want.

oh okay so wait now i'm confused were you also the DP or did you just do photography on the film?

great production overall anyway.

i was simply a set hand during the first shooting day, watching nate and his lenses closely. i had my nikon d80 on set and snapped a couple stills when i wasn't eating cheese and crackers.

oh cool. so you used the nikon d80 for that? a guy i work with has that camera.

lol @ cheese and crackers...sounds like my kind of lunch on my productions
