Panasonic announces two HD camcorders Consumer Electronics By Wolfgang Gruener Monday, July 30, 2007 17:06

Panasonic will be offering two new compact camcorders that can record video in 1080i resolution in September. Both the HDC-SD5 and hybrid HDC-SX5 come in a palm-style design and use the AVCHD format to record 1080i HD.
The HDC-SD5, according to the manufacturer, will be the smallest 3CCD full HD camcorder using SD memory cards as storage media, while the SX5 can also record videos onto 3” DVD-R discs.
Both HD camcorders will be available in September, with a suggested retail price of $1000 for the HDC-SD5 and $900 for the HDC-SX5.

Did the current model do full 1920 x 1080 recording? I thought it did.
I tried the older one and it handled pretty well actually.
Still no 24fps? If no then I'm hoping Canon would release HR10 but SD version.

EDIT:
Oh, I didn't realize that these SD5 and SX5 didn't come out in U.S.. They've been out in Japan for awhile.

It's too bad all of them don't do 24f or 30f.
and Panasonic hasn't updated the prosumer model to full HD pixel, yet.

AVC-HD doesn't need "24F"; it has native inherent pulldown-free support for 1080/24p right from the beginning. It'll record a straight 1920x1080x24p. They just have to actually design a camera that does it; the format already supports it.

Does anyone know if this camera does 4:2:2 out the HDMI jack like the HV20 does?

What about other manual control specs (focus, white balance, mic gain, ect.)

Does it have a mic jack?

Oh if only it had 24p on top of this stuff.

No 24P really? Maybe it just isn't mentioned. It just doesn't make much sense to me to not have that this late in the game. Also it would either take up 20% less space or use 20% less compression if they did 1080p24. I am still shocked this doesn't have 24p. If so they really dropped the ball.
