Tape speed drifts from studio track

I've been experimenting with music video production, and I'm having a sync problem. When I try to sync my footage with the studio track (using Vegas), the footage gradually & consistently drifts ahead of the studio recording. Is this just an inherent speed problem with the footage being recorded to tape & the track being recorded to hard drive? To fix this I have to add a frame or 2 to the footage every 10 seconds or so. I used the exact same recording for lip syncing on set as i'm using in Vegas. When i view the footage by itself, there is no a/v sync problem. It's just the footage drifting from the music track in Vegas. BTW i'm using a DVXb in 24pa mode.

Thanks!

Bender,

currently I am experiencing the same problem. I shot a music video with the DVX at 24p. I imported it at 29.97 into FCP. On set I used a boom box for playback including clacks before the song in order to be able to sync up the footage to the track in the timeline.

I did that. The sync is fine, but after 40 seconds or so the video seems to be ahead of the audio. I have no clue to why.

My only explanation right now is that the boom box did not play back the song a hundred percent correctly.

This is not a horrible issue, I can line it up throughout the song like you do, but it is a hell of a ***** to do that. Still I would like to find an easier solution to this....

I WISH it was only 40 seconds for me!! I have to edit every 10 seconds or LESS. About the boom box thing... If you played it back from CD on set (like i did), then i'm pretty sure that's not the problem. As far as i know, a CD won't vary the song tempo, since it's just reading digital information. I would guess that it's an inherent speed variation when shooting to tape (mechanical heads).

Hopefully someone will chime & let us know if this is right or wrong.

I know it sounds not right for the CD player to be the faulty component here. It should play it back at a constant speed as the original track speed is intended.

I am left clueless. Especially after I thought this is the way to do it, and it'll be cake to edit it.
