Canon or Nikon Glass: Any comparisons with same camera and adapter?

Yeah yeah another comparison thread from me. =P

Anyone got any full-res comparisons between Canon Lenses and Nikon lenses on the same cam and adapter?

As in:

HVX200 @ 720p
SGpro/M2/Brevis/Letus/Etc
Nikon Mount + 50mm Nikon 1.4 (Not Tamron, Sigma, etc)
Canon Mount + 50mm Canon 2.8 w/Manual Aperature (Not other brands, but Canon).

Does Canon glass exhibit more sharpness? If so... why does there seem to be more Nikon + Adapter users than Canon?

I can't answer the first question, but as far as the second part, I think Nikon generally is more popular because their basic mount (the Nikon F mount) has been the same since the 1960's (1959 technically) and therefore there is a lot of older glass with great optics still around, and you can find some real bargains.

The more basic question though is one of Nikon vs. Canon which has touched off many a heated debate online and elsewhere for many years (kind of like Mac vs. PC). In the end, go for whatever works best for you in terms of price/performance/availability/etc etc.

One bonus for the Nikon set is that Zeiss has started releasing prime manual focus lenses that work on a Nikon F mount. So you can get stunning performance that way, if the price isn't prohibitive ;)

Always great advice. I've been wanting to experiment with different lenses... just wondering if the Canon might've added sharpness.

I'm also wanting to try out some Yashica Contax mount lenses sense you can get adapters. Never know what you'll find when experimenting with things.

I've used both Canon and Nikon glass, and they are both good / due equally well. In the end, you get what you pay for- if you get a high quality Nikon it will do better then a cheap Cannon, and vise versa. The better quality the lense, the better the image regardless of if it is a Nikon or a Canon.

The main reason that I switched from Canon to Nikon, was due to the availability of Nikon glass- it has been difficult to get a hold of good Canon glass at the shops in my area, but there is a lot of Nikon glass- which has made purchasing much easier for me.

On a purely subjective note- the Nikon and Canon lenses do feel different. I haven't done testing to verify this, but it feels as though the Canon glass favors the greens a litlle more, making the image feel just a little more organic. Again, this is purely my own subjective observation, but I think that it is worth noting.

Canon or Nikon will do you well, but Nikon is easier to get a hold of- especially if you are looking for used lenses.

Looks like you're the only one starting a feud. Way to go.

Thanks for your thoughts, Ryan. In that case, I'll stop worryin' about trying Canon glass and just use what I've got. PL Mount for SuperSpeeds when it's necessary.

Now that is the BEST choice. I reciently got the chance to use a full set of Zeiss Supperspeeds (with a PL mount) and the difference was HUGE. As well as being able to easily pull focus- it was great. :)
