Haha I tried to learn guitar and got decent after 2 weeks of constant playing. I then broke 2 strings and have since been too lazy to get new ones.

...but I do play the piano well. I taught myself the drums for 2 years but recently sold them for more video gear. :)

I've been playing guitar for 17 years...

I mean, a thread on "guitar awesomeness" has the guy from Spinal Tap in most of the posts from the past 2 days. No offense, Spinal Tap is fun, but it's not "awesomeness"...

Of course everyone realizes that "awesomeness" is entirely subjective. Besides, subjects here in the cafe often go sideways....:D

It isn't about someone's ability to run through scales and licks.

It's about feel.

(I'm intermediate at best playing guitar as of the mid 1990's. These day's, I barely touch one.)

I agree. "Awesomeness" includes a wide gamut of playing styles and players. Stevie Ray Vaughn is awesome. Eric Clapton is awesome. John McLaughlin is awesome. Gary Moore is awesome. BB King is awesome. The guy from Spinal Tap doesn't deserve to be included in this list.

It just seems to me that a thread on awesome guitar players deserves to have awesome guitar players shown. But maybe because I'm a guitar player myself... who knows.
