JVC HD monitor DT-V100CG good for the field?

I just did some research on that monitor.
Here's a brochure on it: DT-V100CGU

It looks like a very capable monitor.

If you buy the monitor, you will need to order the optional component video card.
The total cost is around $1600.00 (including component card)

I did happen to notice using 16:9 mode, it has 230 lines of horizontal resolution. This seems to be normal for a lot of small broadcast monitors.
Is this also your opinion?

I wonder how good the picture is...

Also noticed theres no DC option which is a bit of a let down. I suppose they can only give you so much for the cost........

Speaking of judging picture...is there a reasonable component HD to HD-SDI adapter to use for monitoring? I already have client who wants to shoot a feature in mid-January and they would like to rent the 'package' They would prefer to use our HD-SDI inputs on the Astro 7" HD as well as our Sony BVDM-20". I don't know what's out there -maybe something like the old Miranda for the F900's?

And where is the component HD out on the camera? Please don't say it's RCA out...

But does anybody know of another small HD monitor for less than $2000.00? LCD or CRT?
How about dell's or hp's 24" lcd which both have analog hd component input?
(Not so great black levels, but who's exposuring by field monitor...)

The Marshall 7" LCD with component in. $1349 at EVS or B&H.

Marshall option

Marshall option

I too was looking into the Marshall as an option. I like the portability and the option to put it on a cam or a C-stand, but just wondering if a field monior needs to be a bit bigger. The 17 inch panasonic looks nice, but pricey. I'm looking at 1500-2000 for a field monitor and maybe up to 3k for a field/studio set-up. Anyone has other ideas on a monitor w/ or w/o scopes.

The question is, are you looking for a monitor to assist the camera op. or a director? If you're looking to give the camera op. a safe focusing option, then get the marshall, if you're looking to please the director by giving him an on site monitoring option where he could sit and watch, pick up a real field monitor.

Lots of options.. not lots of cash...

Lots of options.. not lots of cash...

Greetings,

I'm looking primarily for a good all around monitor. One specifically for focus and lighting design as intially this will be used on a personal project. I also hope to get something that's easy to mount or not too heavy. That 24" Dell looks promising. Anyone pick that up yet?

Thanks

Justyn

I've used it quite a bit. It's pretty good. It isn't all that accurate though, side-by-side with the Panasonic 1700, the Marshall is a bit brighter when calibrated the same; it looks a bit "optimistic" and "candy colored" as compared to the more muted 1700 (which I trust has the more accurate picture, given its 2.5x higher pricetag).

Not bad for focusing at all. We tried it at EVS with Rush, comparing the on-camera LCD+peaking+focus assist against the Marshall, and the Marshall was delivering comparable results -- which is surprising given its res, but hey, I'll take it.

So it may not be "one monitor to rule them all", but as a battery-powerable on-camera, the Marshall is pretty good and reasonably inexpensive.
