Why Deniro is my hero

Not so much that as if he didn't want to be a "shill" for Fox, then he could have associated his festival with someone else, no? Or at least not agreed to be the spokesman.

Does anyone really expect DeNiro to all of a sudden turn into Don Pardo or somebody? He's selling his festival not the Fox network. In my mind here's what I see happening. DeNiro does his patented flat take that he does for every single thing he's ever done speaking as himself. The director knows this is all he's going to get out of him as does anyone with half the sense of an ox. Then the 25 year old Fox executive wearing rollerblades on the set rolls up and whispers in the director's ear. "Not good enough. We gotta have him say 'on Fox' with more passion."

Like I said, speculation like that is only speculation. No one really knows what's going on there. You certainly can't tell from those few seconds of video. Who knows? Maybe whoever posted it -- or prepared it for posting -- cut off some rather important stuff which would have changed the disposition of the whole thing very quickly.

Whats great about this is it is so open to interpretation. my feeling when I first watched it was it was a first take, deniro did it naturally, with no bogus effect. the director tried to "improve" it with a really bad suggestion to make it commercial. It then became a challenge between an actors sensibility and a commercial sensibility and deniro took offense. Especially between a guy who starred in Raging Bull and a guy who before this was probably shilling for skippy. (nothing wrong with an honest living, and i just made a heinz commercial)

Or Deniro just ate a burrito and had the Sh@ts.

Does a small promo director think he can really direct Travis Bickle? And do you know how annoying actors find it when you ask them to be more "energetic in a general way?"

Deniro is super protective of the Tribeca film festival. This has nothing to do with acting, he just won't sell it like a used car. Just a couple months ago Deniro got pissed at Bowie for making a reference to Tribeca to highlight another film festival.

Please put this thread out of its misery

I don't think that was a particularly nice thing for De Niro to say, but since he's promoting his own film festival I think he's allowed to say whatever the hell he wants, however the hell he wants - it's HIS film festival.

Well this instance aside, I think some of the dvxusers here could consider this: A lot of actors are protective of their craft. Sometimes this stems from being nervous or having been in situations where they were portrayed poorly. Some of the greatest directors were people who compromised with their actors, or simply just tricked them.

Research Kubrick's interactions with George C. Scott during "Strangelove."

I think some folks who've commented will be shocked when they get into a situation where they are spending $500 or thousands of dollars on each scene. Yes you might fire your actor on the very first day. But come the second, third, or fourth day? When your crew members have walked away with $5,000 of your money? You've got to get a lot more creative than just firing your principle actors.

Unless you're shooting a commercial or a student film.
