Panasonic Video Mixer FS

I've been looking at this item with interest. The price is killer great (unless thereis a typo)...
Please tell me how this would be an improvement over a PC based NLE system..

thnx

Actually, they have different purposes. a PC based NLE system is for shoot to tape and edit later projects. This mixer is for live mix situations. That's not to say that you could not shoot to tape, then sync up two players to roll the tapes back and edit with this mixer on the fly, but that would be pretty old-school. That's the way they used to do it before NLEs.

I use Final Cut Pro for all my shoot and edit projects, but we use this mixer, as well as a larger 4 channel Panasonic WJ MX-50 that we also own, to mix live events as they happen. For instance, we just did a play at a local theatre. I had multiple cameras feeding my mixer and I mixed them live to a "line-cut" tape deck. Then just dumped that tape down onto my Mac to burn a DVD. No post-production editing necessary. (There is a picture of me mixing that play on the web-site with the other photos).

This could also be used to mix 2 cameras live to a large screen, like in a church service or other function of that sort.

It is a good price, but like all video gear, resale drops dramatically after a few years, even though it works perfectly. I've seen them going on ebay for about double what I'm asking, but it's a crap shoot when you sell stuff there. Plus, I originally had this listed at $450 on another forum and didn't get any bites, so I lowered the price and listed in here, as well.

Well Vence, I certainly appreciate your time. You've been quite generous in your explaination.
I only have one cam at this time so the unit would not benefit me much. It's too bad for me cause I could see from your explaination the time it saves in post work with the two cams.
Guess I'm not ready for this yet.

Thanks again...
