Any attitudes towards HVX200?

As I've stated before, we have paid for the camera just with the mini-DV shoots I used to pass on before the HVX purchase.
I've been a Beta SP "snob" for over a decade. :embarasse No more!

We have landed countless shooting gigs BECAUSE OF THE HVX. The only thing that held us back originally was that our community wasn't comfortable with the whole "tapeless workflow". Now that more facilities have discovered the beautiful workflow, the HVX is being requested for many SD and HD gigs in our neck of the woods.

While some people have looked twice at the small size of the HVX, we have not lost a single job, (that I know of), but rather gained more jobs.
We still use the Beta from time to time, but less and less.

I hear those comments less and less, especialy with the HVX. That being said, it is not the best camera for every kind of shoot, even though it's a little humdinger of a camera. It has it's limitations, mostly the lens. That being said, I don't shoot Beta too much any more ;-) .

As Ted mentioned, once the workflow catches on with production houses, all sorts of doors will open. This isssue is probably the biggest one I still run into with the HVX.

It's about using the right tool for the job...etc

All of the negative comments I've heard were not from people who actually considered the footage quality. They primarily make judgement based on not being a shoulder mount or the size of the camera . . or appearance? Or for any other reasons? . . .

When people see me shooting with my HVX200 like this:

. . . I get no complaints. :)

Because of the slick hair and wife-beater? :cheesy: j/k :)

Nice MB & FF set up.

I'll finally get an HVX next month; can't wait.

shot a commercial yesterday. not only were the clients impressed with the image quality, but then at the end they asked me to shoot some b-roll.

rather than offload the P2, I went into MCR and started deleting test clips and bad takes. their jaws just dropped as I cycled through individual takes and deleted bad ones. they LOVED that I could shoot 10 takes, go into the same mode and then pick and choose takes in-camera.

what a camera

I've had the same reaction from clients - it really is great.
I usually shoot with a Firestore, which of course gives me the same killer image - but when shooting on P2 cards, it really is an awesome and slick little machine.

i cant deal with a firestore, but ive never had a complaint. infact yesterday, i shot a commercial, and they were editing onset, and were able to show the cleient a very rough, 15 seconds at the end of the day. it was awesome.

Anybody getting attitudes towards your HVX? Persons who believe it's an inferior camera or not worthy of "professional" gigs?

All of the negative comments I've heard were not from people who actually considered the footage quality. They primarily make judgement based on not being a shoulder mount or the size of the camera. One person said something like "cheap P2 cameras". sheesh!

I realize this is ignorance on their part, but do you find you lose gigs because of the camera's size or appearance? Or for any other reasons?

thanks,
td

Onle people with a good knowledge of video specs can really appreciate the features of an HVX200.... at least until they see the footage! ;)
