Daddy Shark. HVX underwater test

Greetings all.. I just recently had Jim Bailey from waterhousings.com custom build a waterhousing for some wakeboarding and surfing videos I'm going to be shooting. Yesterday I took it out for its 2nd water test at the local pool. This is just a goofing off time with the kids doing something that they've coined, "Daddy Shark". I shot it all 720, 48fps, 1000 shutter with the glorious Century .55 fisheye. Love that lens.

It's wasn't very sunny or bright out last night when we shot this as a storm was rolling in. I'm hoping to get much better light today and do another serious of tests and such. Got some surfing dates planned and more wakeboarding.. that stuff will be awesome for sure.

This file is a big file, and I'll put up a more compressed one later on. You'll need quicktime 7 to view and please download and Save as, rather than streaming off the server. Hope you like as it's just a test and goof and nothing serious, but I love hanging out with the kids and I love this housing. I'll post some photos of the housing later on for those that were interested in having a custom housing built. Jims almost 80 and a major craftsman, but he won't be buidling these forever so I'm glad that I got him to build this for me now. Cheers all!

bunch of views and no comments.... it's goofing around.. but its our beloved HVX underwater and that's exciting to me and planning trips to warm exotic places already..

feedback or comments or telling me to piss off is appreciated, ya'll.

OH MY GOD JUSYN!!!! For an inexpensive underwater unit + that lens. WOW. I can see some great potential. Not to mention dude you boys growing up..... Good test footage

Hey Justyn,
I downloaded the file and took a look at it. Well there isnt much to say, looks like a well shot home film :) (which is what it is) There isnt much to critique or comment on, the water droplets at 48fps 1/1000 shutter look very nice.

I'd love to see some pictures of the housing, and of the windsurfing/wakeboarding stuff you are going to shoot.

Also pictures of the rig, how much it cost you, issues with it, ect, are always appreciated in these boards.

Thanks ya'll. That's pretty much what it is. Just a fun test with the kids. Got plenty of stuff in store so I'll put up some of the action stuff later. There are some photos on the server so you can check those out.

The units are all custom so it depends upon your specs and what you are lookign to do.. like diving deep or surface stuff affects the cost as diving requires more tooling and thicker walls, etc. My housing cost me 1500 and I think that's pretty much what he's going to charge depending upon each persons needs and all that. I also left my camera with him to mock up for about a week so that's something to consider as well. He's going to be making a few of these so it's good for all of us who want an inexpensive and reliable housing.

I'm so glad that I found him and that he's local so if I ever need anything adjusted or fixed if I drop it, etc.. then he's right here. Please feel free to send me a message if you have any other questions.

nice STUFF!!! Did you rain-ex your dome? ur kids must have had a blast!! "Ok kids, now you can splash the camera all you want..."

Keep the footage coming!!

Yes Justin.. totally. I did Rain ex the dome, but still get spots so I also bought one of those california squeegies(sP).. works pretty good.

The housing is custom made so it depends upon what you want, but mine cost me 1500 and its a steal for what is it..

Gonna post more stuff soon.

Nice looking footage and the housing looks really nice!
$1500.00 sounds like a sweet ass deal for what you got.
Looks like I have found the housing I want to get.
Thanks for the post.

Any pics of the camera inside of the housing, with the housing open and closed?
(i'm not planning on getting one, but others might be interested too)

Thanks guys. I can't wait to find more excuses to shoot with it.. Great toy and hammer to pound out some vids. I'm hoping to do a performance piece with a friend that should be really whacky.

This housing is built to go 20'.. maybe 30' max. It's primarily an above and shallwo surfice housing.. and most of the diving I'll be doing won't be deep. He will build it to whatever depth rating you want though. He's built one that'll go 600' so it's all on what you want. I know he's got 3 boxes built and ready to build and at his price they won't be around for long...

thanks. just looking to try and put it into professional use soon enough... It looks killer under better lighting and on the HD monitor. I also love the fisheye from Century..
