Loved this. You're a real filmmaker. I too missed a twist or payoff at the end. But the whole thing had a consistent tone and showed great craft. Loved it.
I certainly didn't miss any "wow" shots. I thought the camera-work was superb. And anything too arty or "different" might have just taken me out of the whole thing. I just really enjoyed the telling of your story, and the performances you got. The fights were awesome too.
I didn't miss a focal character, because to me it was the two worlds/the two groups colliding. They were characters as groups. The Mormons in their bike helmets and ties made a great character. Maybe some are missing a "focal character" because it took a minute to realize that these two groups were in fact distinct until they met each other on the street.
That's a possibility, and totally valid. In that very same case, why didn't each and every one of them have a chance to pass words with a rival in the other group? Why did only one stand in the end and what was his importance over the other? Are both of the groups antagonist or protagonists? Because, there's never really one established (which could get hairy with this subject matter, I know.).
Oh, don't take it as me telling anyone that it's wrong. Sorry if it came off that way. I'm literally drumming up healthy debate on a good piece, that's all.
Not here to tell anyone that anything was wrong at all!
And if someone gets something out of it, then good. If not, that's cool too.
