7-9" CRT Monitor

I'm in the market for a decent one of these. I'd like a scope and 16:9 mask, if possible. Flip feature would be nice, but not necessary... yet. I wanted a camera mounted LCD monitor, but then I decided I didn't want to put that much weight on the camera.

Based on that information, could you guys suggest some monitors? What cables do I need to hook my DVX up to it?

Thanks.

You'll be pushed to find a CRT with a flip feature (though it's an easy but dangerous hack, if you know what you are dooing inside a monitor. That you can research yourself. I don't recomend it of course.)

Also, monitors don't have built in "scopes" .. though there are "waveform & vectorscope RASTERIZERS" that draw the scopes into a video signal for display on any monitor. - But they are pricy.

In adition to 16:9. The pro features you are really looking for are "Underscan" and "Blue Gun". A quit bit of reserach will explain the purpose of these.

What about the JVC TM-1011GU?

It mentions a 16:9 feature, but I'm not sure I understand what that means... Does it squeeze a 16:9 image produced by the HVX (for example) into the 4:3 aspect ratio? Or is it a way to add guides to the 4:3 footage produced by the DVX?

Any monitor that has a 16:9 mode on it, simply means that is displays the video signal as a 16:9 image.

In the case of a nativly 4:3 monitor, 16:9 mode is essentially "Letterbox" display mode.

Are you looking to display a 16:9 signal (shot in "squeeze" on the camera), or are you looking for something that will draw framelines/letterbox bars over your 4:3 image?

I'm looking to shoot 4:3 for full resolution and later apply bars over the video in FCP. It's helpful to be able to monitor that with a CRT though...

They you would need a "Frameline Generator" to draw the edges of the 16:9 frame on the video signal - These are pricy (VERY PRICY by DVX standards!)

Or you can manually draw/mask off the monitor. Wet-erase pens works really well on the glass of a CRT monitor, as does electrical tape - depending on if you want to see the "outside frame" area.

Masking with electrical tape would probably work. What cables do I need to hook the DVX up to a monitor?
