DVM60 Tape Famine - If I do this, will I be ok?

Sorry to be bothering you guys with a tape question for a P2 camera but...

For the past year, I've been exclusively using Panasonic DVM60 tapes on my HVX for event videography, P2 card capacity just isn't there yet. For some reason my supplier has stopped stocking them, and the only way I can find some is possibly dodgey stock from Hong Kong on Ebay.

I've been avoiding other brands because I don't want problems with dropped frame/dirty heads because of the differing moisture content of the tape coating between, say, Sony and Panasonic.

I can get Sony DVM60PR3's no problem. If I give my HVX a thorough cleaning with a head cleaning tape, then switch to the Sony tapes... will I be ok?

:dankk2:

wow I think you need to chill out about what tapes you are using.
Yes I think you might just be ok :)

Ha, ha! Yeah, you're dead right actualy... and not just about the tapes - I really need to chill out in general! Working waaay to hard, and not sleeping enough.

But anyway; I guess I'm a bit uptight about the tape situation because of horror stories I've heard about screwed up footage from heads covered in gunk when people switch tapes a lot.

So is it true that you shouldn't switch tapes, or is it a myth?

you shouldn't do it all the time but it's not going to go bad because you used another brand in a pinch
