I just purchased both cameras and i would really like to know the setting to get an "epic film" feeling such as the Lord of the Rings. Thanks.

be nice, everyone.

niceguy, i would recommend getting barry's HVX book. in it, there is a section detailing scene file setting for a variety of looks. the LOTR "look" was heavily graded on a davinci. if you have the dvds, there is a good bonus feature on "fellowship" about how they achieved the look in post.

What the hell?? I only have MENU > OTHER FUNCTIONS > THE MATRIX > ON

How do I change it?

What's that fantasy film based on a video game? One being shot on HVX & linked to in the footage forum?

that's about the best you can do with a fantasy film. But mostly, I don't think video gets along very well with the genre.

Shooting in New Zealand might help. :-)

Seriously, locations had a major role in it. You can't get that epic look without an epic setting.

Being careful about exposure to ensure that all the highlight detail is retained is critical, too. Choosing the time of day helps. Set design and costume. Using color to sell the mood of the situation.

And don't forget that epic scenes are often scored with epic music. Trying to score LOTR with an ukulele somehow just don't feel right.

Step 1: put it in 24p mode.

Step 2: get a 35mm adapter, for equivalent shallow focus

Step 3: Pull $250,000,000.00 out of your wallet and hire the best production designer, wardrobe designer, cinematographer, set designer, gaffer, post production supervisor, and all the rest of the crew of hundreds of people that worked on LOTR, and give them the crew and money they need to deliver the results you saw.

(well, I guess you could save a little because you could ignore the actors' salaries, but you'll pretty much need everything else).

Step 4: Use that camera that you just put in 24p mode and attached a 35mm adapter to and then use it for BTS stuff... you know, like when they show up with the Panavision...

Step Five:
