BROKEN the FEATURE FILM - TEST SCENE w/MOVIE STARS

i finally have decided that i want to purchase your broken DVD with all those features. is there a dvxuser discount, or an ideal place to purchase it? i cant find hte old link.

Well, i'm in the midst of making my first feature film... it's a real no budget movie... (not the title) but i'm hoping it will be somewhat of a success amongst us DIY folgies. i need all the info i can get from film makers making that transition from a DIY-er to a fully financed film maker. i have other questions for you if you will...

i understand your short film Broken made it through the festival circuits and possibly a theatrical release... not too sure. but, my questions are:

1. what format did you blow up your movie to? was it beta-cam? 35mm??

2. was an up-res nessesary for the picture blow-up?

3. what post house did your movie blow-up?

4. how much did you pay?

5. were you happy with the results?

i really appreciate you taking the time out to answer my questions. forgive me if i'm asking too many questions but i feel your projects have been a great success for you and i want the same success for and from my production as well.

most grateful

1. what format did you blow up your movie to? was it beta-cam? 35mm??
DO NOT DO A BLOW UP...I REPEAT DO NOT DO A BLOW UP!!! Today every film festival in the world that matters accepts Digibeta, Beta SP or HDCAM for screenings. Don't take on the cost to blow up your film to 35mm. Put that money into your film. BROKEN screened in over 100 film festivals world-wide and I was never asked for anything higher than Digibeta.

2. was an up-res nessesary for the picture blow-up?
No

3. what post house did your movie blow-up?
nonw

4. how much did you pay?
it was free ; )

5. were you happy with the results?
no need!!

Good luck bro!!!:kali:

Independent filmmaking is alive and well, its independent distribution that is dead. At a time when "independent" films have to have a star and at least a couple million-dollar budget, how do you get your films seen? Forget Sundance, Miramax, and HBO. These places get hundreds of submissions a year. How do you get your films seen?

From getting free media coverage to myspace, to film festivals and selling your productions through the Internet and DVD. Alex Ferrari gives you a street-level instruction and real-world examples on how to promote, distribute, and sell your production. He challenges you to assess the real market for your film and provides examples of other filmmakers getting their work out, after their films were turned down by traditional distributors.

Independent producer/director Alex Ferrari’s award-winning short film “BROKEN” (http://www.whatisbroken.com) has accomplished the following using his techniques:
- Screened in over 140 international film festivals, 85% of them without paying a submission fee.
- Had his $8000 short film reviewed by world renowned film critic Roger Ebert

- Attracted over 3 million unique visitors to the films website (nearly all for free)
- Has been reviewed or mentioned in over 350 world-wide news outlets including industry juggernauts:
(Ain’t It Cool News, JoBlo.com, Dark Horizons.com, Latino Review.com, Yahoo News, Movies Online.ca)
- Garnered interest from major Hollywood film studios

Could you give any insight as to what you did with the colour correction specifically? I like the look you created, and I want to do something similar with one of my own projects. I'm using after effects, but I would assume the same principles apply.

He basically crushes the blacks, with levels. He added an effect from Magic Bullet for that final look. I think he brought up the mids, and the whites to.

This was all said in his DVD, so you should buy it if you haven't seen it!

Thanks for the plug

I really want to make a living as a feature director and to do so i need slightly bigger budgets. Sure, I could get together $35,000 and make a feature but I want to pay rent as well.

Gotta move on and make bigger films. :kali:

I can see your point.

Here is a question though, when you are the soul investor/producer on a feature that you own do you feel that your ability to realise profit is much higher than if you recieve a flat payment for your services (or is it vice versa)? I am at a mid way point where I don't know if I want to get funding for my projects and give up alot of creative freedom unless the payoff is too large to ignore.

Thanks for your time-Adam

I'm planning to shot the live action feature on the RED. Any experiences out there with the camera? Let me know what you guys think of the anime short film.:kali:

That is one cool anime film!! I can't wait to see the feature. If this is any taste of how cool the feature is to be done with Paula...it is going to be a pretty kick ass movie!
