simplest way to monitor HD with Avid

My PC edit system has an nVidia Quadro FX 3450 graphics card, that comes with two DVI outs. I've been using it with Avid Xpress to cut SD on two regular CRT computer monitors, and like many, I'm moving into HD. The big question is always how to monitor HD using Avid, and my research has turned up more questions than answers.

I'd like to figure out the simplest way to monitor 1080p from a software only Avid system. Failing that, I'll invest in a Mojo if I have to, but I'm not sure that will necessarily help me. What about Blackmagic's HDLink Pro? I don't mind editing with a single SD monitor and monitoring the HD with a second monitor. Or potentially doing both in a single, wide-screen 1920x1200 LCD monitor. Any advice?

Blackmagic doesn't work with Avid.

The simplest way is a 1920 x 1200 LCD connected to your DVI port and using the ... er ... full screen mode whose name escapes me.

This will be pixel acurate monitoring, but not broadcast quality color monitoring. You might check into the Matrox MXO. I'm not sure if it has to interact with the editor, or if it operates alone. If it operates alone it should work with Avid, if it interfaces with the NLE then it's a no-go. This would provide broadcast quality monitoring with a properly calibrated LCD. It works with the *ahem* other editor out there with the initials FCP. :)

Mojo won't help you in this case as it only downconverts an HD image to SD resolution for monitoring.

Thanks guys. What I didn't realize in my HD naiveté, is that my CRT monitors are fully capable of HD resolution. A CRT monitor usually gives better than 1080 resolution even, with much better contrast ratio than the LCDs. And my nVidia Quadro FX card spits out high-res signals via DVI, so when I switch to "full screen mode" (I'd never used it before) I get pixel-for-pixel viewing at 1080+ resolution. For some reason I thought I was going to have to get a Decklink and a new monitor and all that. But I believe my existing CRTs and Avid setup is going to work just fine. Then again, I'm still assimilating all this info.

How did you connect your CRT monitor seeing that nvidia gives DVI out... is there a simple converter available...

i am struggling with the same problem....
