Wedding Montage- critique welcome

u had some nice, "tear jerker" shots, nice slow moes, very nice colors, i wud love to see them in good quality.....felt it ws a bit slow..

nice job though

Some nicely composed shots - don't worry about the compression too much, people have gotten used to youtube's lousy compression, so anything better is considered a bonus rather than the norm.

My negative comment (and it's meant in a positive way) - you could lay off the zoom a little. It actualy becomes tiring after a while, especialy with such tight editing. Granted, it's a difficult shooting environment, and the zoom is a help, but when you're using two cameras try to get used to framing your shot, then if you need to change, do a quick zoom to the next shot. Use the slow zoom sparingly... maybe for intense emotional moments for the couple.

Anyways - Best of luck with it... you're doing great!

Technically: Some exposure issues, particually with the bride entrance. Also, I only use the white flash transitions to symbolize a dramatic change, either a change of scene or some cresendo in the music itself. That may be just a creative decision on my part, but I like to only use the dramatic transitions sparenly. Also, I would loose the heart at the end....it just seemed cheesy and over the top to me.

I thought overall it was fine and I am sure the couple loved it. The only thing I would have liked to see is more variety with the shots....pre-ceremony, toasts at reception, more dancing....fun things that happened.

I have the same critiques that were mentioned above.

When I shoot weddings I go all handheld, that way I can move quickly from spot to spot. If you can hold the camera still enough, it works.

This is a stylistic opinion so it's up to you, but like Harry said, less zooming, sometimes a well composed shot speaks more than movement can.

Here's an example of what I've done when it comes to a ceremony:

Awesome, out of three comments I liked what I heard. I have another wedding this Sat so I will hold back on the zooms, (I totally didn't realize how much I did until you guys pointed it out) take away the white fades and include more variety. Thanks!

Final Design-
I liked how you closed the pre-ceremony with a black fade, and when the symbol crashed for the chorus the bride came out. I personally like some shots to be centered, even and still on a tripod though, from your suggestion.

I bought quicktime pro thinking I could upload my videos in full quality on a website... but had no luck. Any ideas?

I use a tripod during the ceremony, establishing shots, and special dances...all the other stuff pretty much has to be hand-held....unless you have a stedicam rig.

Too much shaky handheld & zooms. Sticks down is nice, especially on those establishing shots. Also, check your horizon, some shots were off-kilter in the beginning.

Now for the positive:

I really liked that shot of the wedding party with the big blue sky.
Multiple angles of ceremony=good.
Your close ups of the bride groom & family were nice.

I don't know if it is just my cheap headphones going out on me, or if someone else has already mentioned this, but the audio of the vows was only coming through one channel in the stereo mix. I would copy that to the other side, or Pan it to the middle. Good work.
