So you all know CAMERAS but what about CARS???

You should go to Tashi Station and pick up some power converters. That should take care of it. :Drogar-Dum(DBG):

It sounds like your ESP traction control was engaged that night with the wet roads the car sensed you slipping and beaked/ throtled down the engine.

Water getting into the engine is unlikely as the VW air box has a flap to take air from the engine bay if the intake tube gets clogged, so there would not be enough pressure to suck water in.

I have had ESP do some strange things in my GTI...

For the CEL chances are you have a dirty MAF, or possibly bad O2 sensor.

If you keep getting CEL you might want to buy a VAG-COM so you can scan the car yourself and save the dealer fee, you can get them off ebay for like $50... Its always fun to go to the dealer with the code and tell them whats wrong with the car :P

I was working at an auto parts place and we offered a code reading service (but only for domestic cars.) So people would come in, get the codes, and then leave. Uhhh... the whole reason we offered the service was so people would buy the parts they needed to fix it...

It's probably the MAF (Mass Air Flow Sensor). Once you doused the MAF with water the ECU freaked out and threw a code and possibly even went into limp mode.

Some Check Engine Codes will "reset" on their own after a certain number of "clean" cycles. Others, especially ones critical to clean emissions performance, will not reset on their own and must be cleared using an ODB-II scanner. Reading the codes will give the nature of the system failure and the VW factory service manuals will provide specific diagnostic proceedures for troubleshooting and correcting the issue.

My bet is that the VW dealer is going to try to hose you for clearing the codes and possibly replacing the MAF. I'm guessing a $300-$600 "repair bill". Good luck.

A lot of places have the readers for imports, too. I used one at Parts America back when I had an MkIII GTI ('96).
