is it possable to edit 24p and 60i on the same 24p timeline will it effect the image at all .thank you for your time

Yes, no problems.

However, when you render out as 24p, the 60i will no longer look like 60i, and you might lose up to half the vertical resolution. But it should be fine.

thanks for a quick reply you are very nice . see my problem is we are shooting a breakdancing video for a record label here in japan and it will be seen on mtv japan and mtv korea . i want it to start out in 24p and then shoot at higher speed becouse im afraid it will be too much blurr with all the dancing .and i want slow motion also in some scenes. what would you suggest will be the best way to shoot and edit and get the best image also it will be shot at night outdoors .thanks

If you want to mix 24p and 60i and keep the 60i looking like 60i, then shoot 24p normal (not 24pA) and edit on a 60i timeline. This is about the only instance where you should -- when you want the non-24p to stay non-24p.

will it still look like a good video quality if i shoot on a 60i timeline. or what if i shoot everything in 24p and just the shots that are in slowmotion will be shot in 60i .when i edit them on a 24p timeline will the 60i image change alot what i meen will it have that interlaced look couse i dont want that .thanks again

Oh -- well, then you've got the right idea -- shoot 24pA for everything but the slo-mo, then shoot 60i for that. When you get into the 24p timeline, slow the 60i to 40%. Just for good measure, right-click on the 60i footage and disable resample.

You might see a little resolution loss, but DV is low-resolution, anyway. You'll be fine.

Okay. I've searched. I came to two threads that my search terms apply to, this
one and other (addressing slo-mo) and neither answers my question.... I think.

Ok. I'm 75% through shooting a feature - DVX100B, 24PA, Vegas - and I have a scene that for specific reasons, I need to mix 60i footage and fit it into the rest of my 24P(a) footage. The scene moves back and forth from 24P(a) "film camera" to 60i "handicam" footage allegedly being shot by the character in the film. I'm not going to do the typical adding of crop lines and flashing "REC" light on the screen, I want the only difference to be the amatuer handheld style as well as the obviously videoish 60i look.

How can I do this? I notice above you recommend 24P as opposed to 24pA, but I'm not going back to reshoot the rest of the film.

Keep in mind, I only want it to LOOK like 60i, I'm not requiring that I actually shoot it in 60i.

Thank you much,

Well, if you convert the 60i footage to 24p, you're going to lose the 60i look of it. That is true at any step in the process, including going to DVD, for example.

So, what you need to do, probably, is edit everything else in 24p, then export as DV-AVI (can do it as either NTSC DV or 24p DV with 2:3 pulldown), bring it into a 60i timeline, and then add the 60i stuff. Then, export as DV, not 24p.
