Add to DVX100 with GL2, XL2, xh a1 or 2nd dvx?

Whatever I buy must play well with my dvx 100.

I found a used XL2 in mint shape for $2200. Used dvx for $1900 or canon xh a1 for $3300 new.

I need to be able to compile/edit all footage with ppro.

You decide which to buy, i'm leaning towards the canon xh a1 because, if im not mistaken, i can shoot in SD, 4:3, and then as my dvx gets replaced, shoot in HD and 16:9.

I need opinions, ready to pull the trigger.

Thanks

Gl2 does not shoot 24p, so that can be a limiting factor for sure that you should be careful of. the XH A1 is probably your best bet, but you are going to have to shell out a lot more money for it. If you want to stay cheap, two dvxs could be a lot of fun and defiantly compatible. Also, to a customer you looker professional and on the ball with matching cameras. I know doing weddings with three GL2s makes you feel / look pretty neat-o and professional. Even if you are not working with 24p...... hahaha. Good luck!

I would go with the 2 dvx's, however, I like the idea of having at least one cam with 20x optical zoom. The XH A1 also seems very forward thinking too.

Keep em coming, love to hear more.

Keep in mind that 20x is a zoom ratio and depends on how wide the lense is to start with. The A1 is about as wide as the DVX but the XL2's field of view is more narrow on the wide end in exchange for a greater reach.

So, what you are saying is that the A1 wide is like the DVX wide, however, if i were to go with the XL2, the wide cannot get as much in the scene as the dvx. Is that correct?

Right. If you look at the focal length, the DVX and A1 are 4.5 at the wide end while the XL2 is 5.4 mm. In 35 mm equivalent the DVX and A1 are about 33mm at full wide while the XL2 is about 39mm, which isn't as wide. In exchange, the XL2 has a greater telephoto reach than both the A1 and the DVX.
