"On The Lot" tonight

they are doing action next week....so hopefully we will se something different.

Then again, probably not.

Yup. The thread fell off page one yet again.

After a very busy two weeks, I'm going to attempt to watch the episodes I've missed on DVR. I'm planning it out already: Left hand: Beer. Right hand: Fast forward button.

I thought Zach backwards short was creative. Do you think he gain some more respect as a director or is he still just a good fx guy?

While I didn't enjoy it as much as the Die Hardly Working, I do think the backwards piece shows him off more as a story teller than some of his previous stuff.

But mostly, these last ones seemed like a step backwards to me - yikes.

Except maybe, again, for Zach's which I thought was a step up from his girl pulls the sun out of the sky ... but maybe not as good as Die Hardly working.

Also the western done by the woman was a step up from her previous work, but she didn't have much to step up from.

Ah crap. The wife's home now, and there's a 0% chance she'll want to watch them. (she gave up at about episode #3)

Oh well, the beer prophesy has been fulfilled.

I didn't really like Zach's this week.

I'm kind of sick of people getting hit by cars randomly in shorts.

Kind of really sick.

When "On the Lot" first started they kept talking about how the 50 "most talented undiscovered directors in the world" were competing for the $1 million development deal. Well, I know it's reality TV, but c'mon. First of all, they're ALL from the U.S. (the "foreigners" were all already working on U.S. visas, living in the U.S., when they were picked for the show--so are we supposed to think there's not a single "top 50 most talented undiscovered director" anywhere like, oh I dunno, China, with its 1.5 billion people?

Anyhow, I'm actually quite shocked how poor most of the shorts are. Many folks on these boards have demonstrated a lot more talent than the On the Lot contestants. Zach so far seems to be the only solid filmmaker (I agree he's proven he's not just an FX guy, but a really creative, imaginative storyteller...oops...then I remember the girl who stole the sun...ouch).

I did really like Will's homage to spaghetti westerns. It was the most sure-handed, in my opinion.

Doesn't it give the feeling of being in film school again. Everyone passes in their projects and the class critics. There is just not a lot of professionalism in the final project. Kinda of hard to explain what I mean. I guess if someone like Michael Day had the assignment you would tell it was professional and not a film student. They are not undiscovered talent, they are still mastering their crafts as if they are juniors.

i agree....but they need to pass them off as the most talented 50 undiscovered directors in the world in order to sell the show.

Maybe the should have like "Directing with the Stars" and put the already talented Hollywood Directors compete for the title of most talented director. Give them the challeges the "On the Lot" people were given. Michael Bay, Speilbergh, Martin Scorsese, and so on go head to head. But I don't think any of them would put there title in jeapordy in the name of reality tv.

That would be silly and stupid anyway. No offense to you and your idea, but there's already enough superficial, moronic "reality" TV contests as it is. But I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. I hope you were kidding.

My dream:
One day people people will be as polite to each other on the internet as they would be if they were at a dinner party or out for cocktails or in the break room at work.

I know it's a little out there. But hey it's a dream.

Sorry I have not read every post here but will throw in 2 cents.
I saw one episode. I assume they had 24 hrs? OK, but the actor's roster is free I take it. If the dude wants 10 actors, the comp casts and brings em in? That's what I got. So right off the bat that's that. Next the cameramen. Or how many?Or is it just the "director".

Next the audio. I'd bet it's the same deal. It is not done in 24hr but as a post "what do you want" by some hired, trained, help.

Compression for web display? Yep, only the best baby.

So....Maybe that's good because they are put in a "pro" position and see what they can do.

But put those guys on here and submit a dvxfest entry.
Ya all know what I'm sayin.

Better yet give Jack, Mark & Tim, Norm & Rebbeca, Cinealma, Spidey, Ralph Oshiro and more. (Ted you too :) ) Let's give them a bottomless budget with unlimited talent, audio & lighting techs. Fk.

I have alot more respect for the people around here than anything I'd see on that show. Bottom line for me is, I'm not interested in watching it again.

Let me clarify. All I was trying to do was bring sexy back. It's like a 12 step program, there's a specific stages you have to reach by completing certain tasks, and part of it was adopting an "I don't care what anyone thinks of me" attitude, and I guess it came off wrong. I guess I failed. But I wasn't trying to be rude per se, just trying to achieve my goal of bringing sexy back, and I'm sorry if I offended anyone.
