J.J Abrams "Cloverfield" project.

I think it's terrorists, who've developed a geneticely enhanced virus that mutates camels with missile launchers attached to there humps. or mothra.

How could it be Cthulhu if it's coming from beneath land? The explosion hints at it coming from ground...

Although the Statue of Liberty head seems to say from water.

The city where Cthulhu lives is called R'lyeh which happens to have sunk into the ocean eons ago (or not quite eons ago, depending on which story you're going with).

The trailer effectively caught my attention but kind of in a bad way. It annoyed me that there was no title listed or it was too fast to register...and it reminded me of Godzilla with the noise that preceded the ending...I had to groan at that and then not knowing a title left me feeling they were pretentious, like we've just been privy to some awesome material. Whatever.

The more I watch this trailer the more afraid I become.

And I'm being honest here.

The monster moan in the middle, and then the look on the girls face as the Statue Of Liberty's head comes sailing in... absolutely terrifying.

I gotta say that trailer is like 10 times less effective to me in HD.

The small one I saw that someone captured in a movie theater or something made it all feel real. You had to struggle to see what was happening. Somehow that made it more immediate and dangerous.

This HD version just looks really fake and "produced." And thus not at all scary...damn. I had really high hopes for this too.

I actually didn't see it in the theaters! Lucky! I had to stand out in the long line for popcorn and missed it; didn't even get popcorn, either, cause the movie was starting.

At the theater, I thought it was cooler than watching the HD trailer. Maybe it's the whole theater experience. Also the picture looked worse at the theater, more like a cheap consumer cam. Maybe i'll make my own version and muck up my HVX picture.

the idea is to make it look like regular consumer camera...

there is lot of this type of cinema verite being used in advertising-wich also utlizes VIDEO and not 35mm film for that specific "is this real" look. People can relate to VIDEO shot images and think that its real cuz it comes out of somthing they can buy @ best buy.

commercials for playstation and few others use the same technique, i think haing a full movie shot in this style could be very interesting. Especialy if its run and gun, the camera not on a smooth surface but calcuated hand held, i'm excited to see this.

Well I didn't even see it in the theater. I saw a videotape on the web that someone made from a movie theater. And that much less quality is what brought it to life for me. Like the quality was low enough that the explosion looked like it was real. In the HD version, it is quite obviously fake. Same with the statue of liberty head. That's a little disappointing too, now that I think about it. It's like in those Emmerich movies where the monster or aliens only seem to attack famous landmarks :)

Yeah I agree, the statue of liberty sound and head were fake. The monster's call was pretty freakin' scary.

Let's hope those aren't the finished FX just yet.

However, this ETHAN HAAS thing is insane. I love the different sites on the net that have speculation.

JJ Abrams made a statement that ETHANHAASWASRIGHT doesn't have anything to do with this movie.

Abrams seems to stuck, generally, in one gear -- Big Mystery.
yeah even going way back to "Regarding Henry" where even learning to tie your shoes held the threat of a terrifying unknown!!! i know his name is stamped all over this latest internet phenomenon, but I wonder if J.J. isn't getting too much credit. do people even realize that he is neither the writer nor director of this film?

Yep I saw a preview for this with transformers it looks great!!! Love how the teaser trailler is such a tease! At first I thought it was a new Godzilla.
