60i exported as TIFF sequence to 23.976...

If I export a TIFF sequence from 60i footage (upper field first on export), and then import that TIFF sequence into a 1080p/23.976 timeline, is the TIFF sequence still interlaced within that 1080p/23.976 timeline? Or has it been "deinterlaced" by virtue of the TIFF sequence export and the import to a progressive project? Beats me.

I think this is how it will work:

Avid will expect the Tiff sequence to have originated at the proper frame rate, so you'll actually end up with a slight slow motion effect with what you're suggesting. Avid won't analyse the Tiffs to determine if pulldown is present in the sequence or if some of the Tiff files are interlaced and some are progressive. It will just create something that doesn't look quite right.

I could be wrong, but I think that's what Avid will do.

Definitely gives a 25% slow-motion effect. I doubt it's been "deinterlaced." Thanks. Looks like I'll be using Neo HDV to do the pulldown and get progressive footage.

Anyhow, seems like every 3 or 4 months, I venture into some new Avid territory that involves a learning curve all over again (I've never bothered to deal with interlacing issues until I got an HV20). It's hard to get definitive answers from Avid's forums (unless MichaelP shows up there). DVXuser is often the best place for Avid related Q&A's.

You need to create progressive footage first. Drop the interlace-progressive fluifilm preset first, then export as TIFF. It will play back 25% slower. If you want to play it at the same rate, you need to speed up the 60 by 125%, make it progressive, then export.
