"Dance Dead" Vampire Music Video

Well the drama on this video unfolds even further. It turns out that the band is editing their own version of the video to show on the 14th. This should be good. I kind of saw this coming. I'm sure they will put up their version on youtube or something like that so that all of you here can make the compairison. I'll make sure to post the link in this thread if it happens. I'm really interested on how they are going to do the eye effects for the video because none of them know how to do that.

But anyway, Lloydc, I also think its a little dark and I'm going to be fixing that soon when I get back home in a couple days.

Oh and just for the record I did this video for free just to get something other than timelapse on my reel. So all this BS going on is just entertainment to me. If it was stressen me out I would just not even talk to these guys.

Good attitude Drew, great piece for your portofolio. You give them an inch, they want a mile. They'll never get the eye trick , and therefore loose the eye candy. The problem when we do stuff for free or very little is the client thinks were amateur, and treats us with little respect. When you charge through the teeth they respect you. I think this video will easily get you paying work, so no matter what, you did the right thing by sticking to it.

Good luck to them editing better than you did! That was "killer" (get it) fantastic job, great lighting and effects. Your editing is better than their music!

How did you do the eyes drew?

I did the eyes in Shake. I'll post what the node tree looked like for one of the shots here in a second so you can see what was done.

Here's what the node tree looked like for this shot.

Wow! impressive, I have shake but have never used it, maybe I will start now. Do you know of any good tutorials on DVD? Always so much to learn!

Philiefay, sorry but I don't know of any good tutorial DVDs on Shake. Its not that hard to learn. You just have to mess around with it and read up on what everything does. But I think there was a tutorial DVD that came with Shake.

I say make the thing as close to black and white as possible except leave the eyes colored and the reds. Cut out some of the vampire hunter and feeding shots which seem to dominate the whole of the video, and add some nightmareish B-roll shots like twited trees, black cats, industrial images tubing, wires,(think Tetsuo) Moon shots are good as well as other religious and folklore iconography ie, crosses, stakes, holy water, daylight, burning, coffins, all these things come to mind when I think vampires.

Just my 2c

p.s. Lots of great stuff in the books that occompany Shake. Great job on the eyes BTW.

So I saw the video they cut together and boy was it...different. It didn't help that the projector they were using sucked and you could barely see some of the shots. They said that it should be up soon, maybe today. When I find it I'll make sure to post it here.

Movie Stunts, I don't know about that whole b-roll thing you were talking about. From what you made it sound like it would have looked like the video from "Queen on the Damned".

Never saw it maybe i'll look it up, for what song was it? B-roll I meant atmospheric shots to garner the vampiric mood.

"Queen of the Damned" was a sequel to "Interview with the Vampire". It wasn't very good in my opinion. I was going more for a short film kind of feel for the video...like telling a story in it, which I think it does. Random shots for atmosphere do work for some things. But I'm not sure if this is one of those things. But that's just the way I feel about this project.

No, I think the lead singer is still working on it after the fact. I've been looking for it because I want to see a version of it that I can see. That projector they used at the show sucked.

Beginning was a retarded ripoff of the Lost Boys comic book store scene the acting and audio was horrible. The rest of the video was actually pretty good and flowed nicely.

The beginning audio was just from the onboard mic because there was no talk about using any audio that we got on the shoot.
