USB not recognized by PC - PC Mode is set to USB. Anything else need to be set?

Am I missing something when connecting my HVX to my PC via USB?

I have the PC Mode on the HVX set to USB and I know the cable is working because I use it for my Nikon D70.

I've tried having the camera in different modes, such as thumbnail view and normal camera mode. I've tried plugging it in before and after the PC has booted.. I'm out of ideas! Faulty USB socket?

You need to install the P2 drivers, the camera is not a standard USB Mass Storage Device. Once you do that, put the camera into MCR mode, and then press and hold the MODE button for another two seconds to establish a connection to your computer.

My HVX mounts on my Linux system just like a USB Mass Storage device, and I can transfer files just fine. I cannot offload directly from P2, however, as there are no Linux drivers.

I have the P2 drivers installed on my Windows machine, so I can't check, but any idea why Windows would need drivers installed to see the camera via USB and Linux does not?

Is it possible that the original poster simply had the camera in USB Host mode instead of USB Device mode? Or could it be that I'm just really lucky?

To the same end-- Thoff: have you used the P2 store? I'd like to be able to offload P2 to my Linux notebook without using the camera itself, so if the P2 store will mount as a USB Mass Storage Device via USB (the way the camera *seems* to be doing now), then I can use the P2 store simply as a card reader to offload. Any thoughts on if that's possible?

Tony, there is no USB Host Mode on the HVX. I haven't used the P2 Store, and I try hard to stay away from Linux. I've done some software development for it, but given a choice, I don't go near it.

That did it, thanks! I had the P2 Drivers installed for the P2 Store, but was never able to install them for the HVX because it would tell me to plug the camera in and nothing would happen. Holding mode for 2 seconds did the trick. Thanks again!
