Record uncompressed 14-bit (4:4:4) on your HVX200

I was really impressed with the some footage I saw done on the Andrameda.

despite the warrantee issues it sounds like a great product. I wonder why Panasonic doesn't take that step on there own with the HVX200.

I think its amazing that Real Stream has done such great job with the Andrameda.

One Question? Is it true that you can use the MAC Mini with this setup. I was always concern with the run and gun setup.

Would it be possible (for someone like Reel Stream) to remove the HVX's stock lens and install a PL mount or other 35mm mount? I realize this is practically a new camera, but a poor man's RED would have quite a following.

I realy can't imagine that would be do-able. The whole lens and imaging block are one conected unit.
If it could be done, the cost would be enormous, probably cheeper to buy a Red.
But an HVX 300 with a built in 35mm unit and transfer lens now, that's another matter!

Dave

Juan announced prciing for the Hydra package to be about $3500
That with an HVX is still a hell of alot cheaper than a red cam.

Juan, pretty please, what is the increased latitude mentioned on reel stream, and most importantly, footage please

Yes, but the Hydra is relativly simple in comparison. Whatis being proposed is radical surgery involving mechanical work on an individual basis, very expensive. Ok, if not a red then certainly HPX 500 teritory, and unless yoyr going for the tranfer lens option you still have 1/3" DOF.
Oh hell, this is going way off topic, lets keep this to Hydra ok?

Dave

true, but to get 2k resolution uncompressed and VFR out of the hvx, beats putting down almost 40,000 for a full red system (not saying its better),

but 2k for hydra is smokin

Used HVX goes for around $4K... so you are looking at $7500 or so to shoot 2K. No extra stuff needed if you already have a decent computer. Add a Brevis setup and some SLR lenses and you are at $9000 for uncompressed 2k with 35mm DOF.

That is the cheapest solution on the market by far. A RED set up, with SLR lenses, cheapest storage option, etc., will set you back $22K or so.

ash =o)

I think I remember him saying mid to late August before he expected any footage. The more time he spends perfecting Hydra rather than worrying about wetting our appetite for stills and absolute specs and absolute pricing, the better the product.

Hi guys! First post here... I've been looking at the HVX for a couple of months now, and I've more or less settled on it. It'll be a big purchase for me though, so I want to make sure I'm getting every bang for my buck, and the prospect of shooting uncompressed 2K on this already impressive machine is truly very exciting.

So, I'm wondering if it's worth holding out for the Hydra's release before buying one. Assuming there will be a pre-modded option like the Andromeda, what can we expect in terms of a bundled pricetag?

Also, how much hard disk space would shooting with these specs require? Is a dedicated machine a necessity? Last time I took my laptop out onto the field, the screen wound up getting scratched somehow. Not something I want to risk every time I'm doing a shoot. Are there any standalone IEEE-based hard drives out there that might work in a similar fashion to the FS-100?

My apologies if any of these questions have already been answered. Thanks for your time!

No reason to "hold out" as the hydra will be a retrofit option.

I understand that, but seeing as I don't already have one, I guess I'm just wondering if it'd be more cost-effective to buy it all together. Also, I'm a little cautious about opening up something that expensive after I've already purchased it, just as a general rule.
