"Dance Dead" Vampire Music Video

This is a video that I shot about a month ago and for the most part its done. There still needs to be maybe one or two sound FX added to it. I'm putting it out here to get some feedback on it.

And here's the version that the band did. Meaning the version they edited. I'm putting it on the front of this page because no one seems to want to comment about the difference in the two videos. Plus I figured it would be easier to find at the front.

Great job dude. The eyes finally saw the light of day. Good use of the effect. Not my type of music, but over all very pro. Keep it up y'alls

I really liked the cutaway stuff with them running. One of the best shots was the slow-mo running in the puddle.

Thanks guys. I think the video looks good also...I just wanted some audience feedback because the band isn't 100% happy with the video.

This video was done with almost no budget and when I say that it means maybe $400-$500 was spent on it. The video is suppose to premiere before the bands next show, which is the 14th of July out in the Phoenix area. But it think they might be trying to edit it themselves or find someone else to do it in a week.

The band is really nice and everything, they're just perfectionists and can't really tell me what they want...oh well.

it looks good!

some of the shots could have used a different lighting setup
(like some of the shots of the singer close up, the wall is lit up more than his face)

I would mess with it a little more in post, make it a little grungier, maybe add some film grain, maybe change the colors a bit, make it a little more "dead" feeling. Kinda like the pic in your avatar

I hope that helps

Yeah dogcat, that's what I was thinkin also.

Tjohara99, thanks for the feedback. Yeah I could have used a different lighting setup for the onstage stuff. But it kind of keeps it a little dark, which is how I think a vampire would like it. I tried to keep it as practical as possible...I was looking for more of a cinematic look to it instead of an over lit music video. I try and see what I can come up with as far as a different color setup for the video. It will give me a chance to use that Color program.

Loved the song, loved the tunnel. (wish tunnel was more at the start!)

Great start on edit. Great eyes!!!!

Dirty that video up or they will look like "posers" too colorful.

I would like to see some more regular speed of the band performance, fast hard rockin style. I wonder if Spooky Dan and Tammy are in this video.....

Nice stuff.

Very nice! I agree that it should be grunged up a bit, but I really like it. I wonder what specifically these guys have a problem with. For the budget you were working with, I'd say you did a heck of a job, you should be proud.

I just finished a "grunged up" version of the video. I'll have it up in a couple hours. DeadEyes, I am proud of what I did. This was the first music video that I've done that was like this. I did do a music video before but it wasn't anything like this one...as far as the scope and how complicated it was. I storyboarded out this whole video and did all the effects as well.

Drew, I liked that man. Not exactly my kind of music. The lighting, I liked the balance and your choices. The production and the edit is a $teal for the band. I can understand they may have their own image in mind. Can't wait to see the grunged up version.

Finally got the first version downloaded and liked it. Music was kool, video was kool. Only problem I had was no blood on the feeding but... Other than that I really liked it.

Really liked the video clip!
The color correction was subtle but added a cool feeling to the whole clip.
If I didnt know the budget value I would say it was a great video.
Knowing the budget, it was really a steal. Marilyn Manson would have paid you US$150.000, 5 years ago, if you could go back in time with a HVX.

Drew, this revised desaturated grade looks cool. I note a few of the darker shots now have a lot less detail, a crushed black effect. I am viewing this on a laptop LCD, so I can not properly judge colour and brightness. Definitely a grunged up and desaturated look. You and your client may or may not want to bring back a little of the detail on a few shots. Just my opinion/observation.

Cryogenic, we had some blood on set. I just opted not to use it because I wanted to keep moving and I know that would have slowed the shooting down. Plus I think blood in this type of video would have been a little too much.

Tiagolins, thanks for the comments. Kind of sounded like if you didn't know the budget you wouldn't have liked the video. Kind of sounded like that.

Christoper, yeah I also did notice that some of the shots lost the detail that I wanted them to have. Its still a work in progress. There were some shots that looked a little too bright for me also looking back on it. Once I have it dailed in a little bit more I'll post it in this thread.

I still have a week to get it done....that's if these guys even use this edit for their next show coming up. Hopefully I can work out this whole thing over the weekend.

Almost there Drew. I can't imagine the band would be able to get the footage into another edit suite, re-edited and graded any better, without dropping some serious dollar$. Don't cut yourself short on your own fee, if you spend another week on it.

saw the newer graded cut.

I think it's WAY too dark. You can grunge it up with transition effects. I know it's the major trend these days with low budget music videos... film burn effects etc.

Make it chaotic, that's what they are looking for. Look at hiro's music videos, he does those film effects and chaotic editing like no other.

Good luck!
