I am looking for a portable hdd, which won't crash when it experiences some shakes. Capacity of 80gigs is more then enough. It is for filming and capturing in the field with a macbookpro.

I had these two in mind
- LaCie Rugged Hard Disk 80GB 5400rpm USB 2.0/FW 400 en 800
- Iomega silver Portable FW/USB 120gb

Thanks,
Senne

We recently took 6 Seagate 160 GB ruggedized USB 2 drives (ST9160821U2-RK) on a 7 week shoot in Russia and Uzbekistan. Under what were sometimes rigerous conditions, they preformed beautifully. They do run at 5400 rpm, however, if that becomes an issue.

I've been using the Ondago mentioned above for a long time, it's a great drive, small rubberized and only needs the firewire cable.

If you're using the Wiebetech portable HDD using the firewire, could you just pop this from the camera and plug it into your pc for immediate editing?

As with the P2 card and the SCPCI-P2 slot and/or FS-100, these devices retain the necessary format to immediately edit without rendering video. Skeptical considering the cost of the wiebetech is much lower than the FS-100.

Does the wiebetech provide that some functionality? What could you do?

You can record DVCProHD directly from the cam only to the Firestore FS-100.

The wiebetech drives are for copying recorded p2 cards from the cam or as a scratch disk when recording from the cam out FW through Final Cut Pro.

I have a Western digital USB 2.0 bus powered 160 gig drive that I got from
costco for 120.00 CND funds.
I have used if for many months in the field with no problems at all and have edited projects in the field straight from it.
Costco has a sale on them next week for another 20 bucks off so 100 bucks for 160 gigs is dam good for a portable drive.

someone here told me about the 'mybook' 1tb drive.... i friggin' love it. their smaller ones are great too. i just use mine w/ my old g-4 titanium book w/ the p2 slot... all in one case for otg.
