Beach & Skate footage - Stock HVX

Hey guys,

Figured I would post up my first effort, despite the fact that it's pretty poor, ha! Spent an hour or two down the beach with the brand new camera the day after I got it, to start trying to come to grips with it.

Only colour corrected a few shots to see what it was like, otherwise, my tripod was really inadequate for such a heavy camera and I have since sussed out the white balance ;)

Anyway, in all it's not so great and I hope to share better soon, but here's a link for now if you're interested. . .

Sorry for no streaming, not sure where to host it for that. Any tips?

i tried to check it out but it made me download a 69MB file. i just canceled it. no offense, but they way you're downplaying how poor it is doesn't make sense for me to continue. Dude you've got to be stoked about what you're doing or why do it? try to make a smaller size for download maybe. 20-30MBs should be plenty of size for just some test footage.

I hosted it for friends who wanted it as high-quality as possible.

It's not so poor, just not as brilliant as some of the stuff I've seen on here. I had it hosted anyway, figured it may as well go on here for people to look at too if they want.

aw man it's nowhere near as bad as you make it sound, lol.

however some of the shots in the beginning were underexposed and you really should have color corrected the rest of the film it woulda looked so much better. a lot of it seems dark or desaturated for some reason - did you use a filter or something? it had the look of an old 70's movie for some reason- like Enter the Dragon with Bruce Lee.

maybe it's just me or maybe it's just because it wasn't CC's though. overall the shots were pretty cool especially the close up on the skateboard on the ramp. were those kids sitting on the rail with their butts showing your friends?

Filmboy, as far as the underexposed shots, I don't use Zebra, or anything, so maybe I will try that next time, some of them are a bit dark hey. I think I've noticed also, that unless I have a perfect viewing angle in the eyepiece it can look darker or brighter than it really is. I didn't use a filter or anything, but I didn't have anything to properly white balance the camera with so the white balance makes it really warm in places, woops.

And those kids sitting on the rail with their butts showing were just random local kids, I just shot what was there, didn't have anybody to work with. Since when did plumbers make the whole ass crack hanging out thing cool?

Thanks for the tips...

finally.. a faster connection speed (for me) so i checked it out. don't sell yourself short. It's decent mellow footage. Just go get more! It was much better than my day one footage from my DVX. i shot flowers! At least you shot skaters and the waves.

hey- an insane question........ is this footage from australia?

it looks exactly like a place i visited and jogged through one morning...

Yeah, it's in Australia. I live on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland and I shot all that footage down at the beach at Alexandra Headlands. The skate park is literally 20 metres from the sand, so it's a great spot.
