Indiana Jones 4

Though I'll always love Harrison Ford for his older work, we can't forget the mediocre things that have happened since The Last Crusade -

"How dare you sir."
"Get off my plane."
"I'll tell you when the missions over."

Indy 4 has a 1/10 chance with me. I got angry when I heard they were making a fourth. I loved the Last Crusade, I think it will be impossible to beat. Plus, this flood of sequals is making the anticipation for good sequals VERY bittersweet. In addition to that, hopefully we won't be watching a video game like 99% of post-T2 action movies.

Yeah, Harrison is old, but part of the appeal of Indiana Jones was that he wasn't an unstoppable he-man. When he got punched, he looked hurt, when he had to do a crazy stunt, you saw the fear in his eyes. This was a conscious contribution by Harrison to the action movie genre, and helped sell the action to modern audiences. Now that's he's older, the punches will hurt more, and the stunts will be more painful, and that will just make it all the more real. It's not like the guy is in a wheelchair. Paul Bettany said he was amazed by how tough he still was when working with him on Firewall. I'm not concerned about him. I'm more concerned about going to the same well one too many times. Didn't work out so well for Star Wars. We'll see how this goes...But I have to admit the first time I hear that Indy theme in the theatre again I'll probably get a boner.

" I, do however, have one bit of advice for Junior: Demand that the critters be digital, the cliffs be low, and for goodness sake keep that whip by your side at all times in case you need to escape from the stunt coordinator! "

What a great quote! I never would have though that an old timer like Connery would prefer digital critters. But then again, real animals are often unpredictable.

Speaking of Connery--heard some buzz about a 70s Bond script that he helped write. Warhead, with helicopter attacks on the Statue of Liberty. I think they are writing a book about it.

Raiders was a favorite but I think the Ark was the star, Indiana Jones was just a made to order serial hero. It was nothing more than a big budget serial adventure--no character depth at all-(ok Indy might have committed statuatory rape"I was a child--it was wrong and you knew it!")-and acting wise, Ford's supporting cast were much more at ease in their parts than he was.

I dont think Indiana Jones as a character had the meat to hold up for sequels the way a James Bond did. Or Rocky for that matter(Stallone really pulled a hat trick with the 6th movie).

Temple of Doom was ok--Crusade was ok with more character development but it just didnt have the pizazz of Raiders.

And the key is--what's the treasure?
The Ark was fantastic--its hard to beat the finale.
If the current one is set in Aztec mythology then maybe its got a Treasure of the Sierra Madre influence with Ford as Walter Huston?
Maybe[SIZE=-1] Quetzalcoatyl will show up. It needs a big supernatural monster--not glowing stones or a rusty goblet.

I am most interested in how dark it will be--because all Spielberg's films went dark after Schindler. He just needs to keep Lucas away from the director's chair. Far far away.

I like Crusade as much as Raiders. I definately do not like temple o doom....

About the 4th film of the series, I must say that I wish Speilburg would stop trying to force Shia Labeouf into films. He isn't the next tom hanks.

Notice the last 3 of Shia's last 4 films are produced or directed by Steven. Coincidence?

I am not sure why I feel this way, perhaps he looks perpetually too young to be a lead role, or perhaps I watched to many episodes of Even Steven's when I was younger. Either way he never seems strong, bold, or have the sex appeal I want in a lead role. (you know what I mean)

Speaking of sex appeal, the female lead in Transformers is WAY outa Shia's league. :love4:

Also, Transformers 2 has been announced, as well as Jurassic Park 4. Please Steven, STOP. :crybaby:

Correction, JP4, not 5. Although I think we will see a jp5 nonetheless.

Its being made now, not sure how that will be. Aside from some recent stuff, I completely trust Steven to create a great Indiana 4th. I mean seriously, how many BAD mistakes has the guy made in his entire career? There have been some but not many thats for sure. Yes theres been some "OK" work but he hasn't had a real bomb for many many many years.

Plus he waited for many years for Indy 4 because he couldn't find a script he really wanted to do. I dont think he would do it at all if he wasn't sure that it would be a good movie.

I trust him. We'll see, but I don't even dare make a bad judgement at this moment. I mean seriously everyone that says it will suck is going on nothing but cast names, the fact that its #4, and that the earlier ones were so great.

I hope it'll be great.

- Kyle, who'd buy a ticket to it even if it sucked just to see HF on the screen in his full costume. (ive never had the pleasure)

As far as sequels go, I'm not a Rocky fan, and groaned at the news of Rocky... what is it? Like #5? Yet from what I've heard, it was pretty good. So you never know until you see it.

I'm cautiously excited. I'm really looking forward to it, but I worry. I love the Indy movies, though like everyone else I'm not so keen on Doom.

Oh, Harrison, why did you have to get old?

Let's just hope he doesn't break a hip or something....

And since he's so much older than the last one, is he still fighting Nazi's? Shouldn't they move on to Communists or something to show the obvious passage of time?

The new film is supposed to be set in the 50's, so unless he discovers Nazi's hiding in Argentina... not likely to happen.

Spielberg wasnt the only decision maker. I read that Ford and Spielberg liked the Darabont script--Lucas didnt.

**cripes
that makes me feel so old
I went to see Raiders in my pajamas(it was a late night spur of the moment decision)
I saw Doom on opening day and didnt even know what the story was about for Crusade when i went in(a deliberate news blackout).

And his appearance on Young Indiana Jones was a big event too.
