$50 PAR light at... IKEA!

I got mine today ... woohoo! Can't wait to get to the office tomorrow and set it up and play with it. The timing is perfect since I'm shooting some talking head stuff this week.

This is nice - they also have it in Germany. I'm gonna get one for sure (sadly ikea won't be in our town until 2009...)

I used these IKEA lights a few years ago (with soupcans at snoots). If i remember correctly, they won't work with high wattage bulbs. You may be able to go a bit higher than the rated max but be careful!!
I thought they were a great find as well...but the output and spread don't even come close to Dedolight...but of course neither does the price!

I've just bought one of this in spain and i can say its great and you have lots of choices with the included gobo paterns and color filters

What is the tool needed to cut the gobo insets? I can cut he pieces trace an outline then?

I would think you could just use a Dremel. Or a laser. But if you have a laser, you can probably afford a better light.

Hmmm....

Beer cans huh?

Me to boss: "How many custom gobos would you like? No problem I'll be out back working on those the rest of the day."

imagine then the great new patterns one may be able to come up with when slightly schnookered... ;)

I think the equation solves more like:

(contents / gaffer) + (scapel-sharp blade * ornery material) = Emergency Room ...

I picked up one of these lights today - will hopefully post some pics here soon - really cool little unit and although not as bright as a dedolight (1/8th the price) it's going to be a very functional piece of my kit.

I failed to get the name of them but Ikea has some little strip LED lights - not sure the entire wattage but it's a 4 strip package each strip probably with 10 lights on it. Cost - $45 I think - can't find it on their site but actually looked fairly cool and I may pick up a set to play with - reminds me of the new light tube on the vidled.com website but without the tube ;) - never thought that between Home Depot and Ikea I'd have as many of the lights I now have. Now I have a reason to go eat meatballs more often!

Karl,
I have one of these sitting in a box that I've never used because it wasn't bright enough. Where did you find the 100 W bulb and does it get too hot with that much power in it
