Pretty sweet but I don't think it is competition for RED.

What does it run at?

edit- run at price-wise.
 
thats not competition to RED. its competition ot high speed film cameras. though i'd rather have a 2k camera with 1000 FPS capability than a 4k cmaera with only 60 FPS. i really like super redicoulously slomotion.

Im not sure why that isnt RED competition? Is it because its not 4K?
 
Not at all, it's not RED competition because Phantom cameras cost way more than 17,00 USD, that is unless this is something new and they are releasing it at competative pricing.
 
I don't know the price, but it's over $100k. I've heard closer to $200k, but no confirmation on that. I'm not regretting my RED deposit yet, although that demo was BAD ASS!
 
The stake is in the ground. The gauntlet has been thrown down.

Let anyone and everyone try to compete with Red. They will have to match or beat Red's pricing and match or beat its technology at the same time. Its all a win win for us independants. Thats the beauty of a disruptive technology like Red.
 
yeah, i think we're talking about two different beasts here. last i checked, red's variable frame rates go from 1-60fps. the phantom delivers a 2k picture with variable frame rates between 1 and 1000fps, and costs more than a house. i thought it was interesting that they had the camera on the beach with very little protection. in any case, a super demo.

A very interesting camera.
It's not really competition for RED though, - the Phantom unit a highly specialised instrument, not a general purpose camera like RED.

Also bear in mind that 2k@1000fps generates scrap very fast when you screw up :p
 
ITs not competiiton because its not the same kind of tool. The phantom is a highspeed camera. not a cinema camera.
