"On The Lot" tonight

The Judges might have been quick to bash Marty, but I think he showed alot more potential than any of the other films tonight.

Why can't this show be south park, where someone kills kenny! Another wack job of a short from him. Clearly he is in his own little world.

I missed it.

Well...... I just didn't see it.

What happened?

here is a synopsis..
-janitor exacts revenge on coworkers by waxing a floor to make them slip across it as they rush into a room to eat his hamburgers
-guy hires cupid to shoot arrow at his date because he can only talk about things like warp speed. cupid misses, but it turns out the girl is into video games.
-boy asks his mother about how many men she has slept with. slutty mom goes around town telling the men and women that she's been with not to greet her in front of son.
-not even a short film, but rather a movie trailer about a guy that makes a deal with the devil and gets shot in the end.
-guy's father dies so he goes and drinks beer by a waterfall. the dead father's spirit appears and hands him some roses, which the guy tosses into the water.

trever gets voted off.

who cares about anything carrie fisher has to say in this competition....her comments are absolutly worthless...she can't even put a whole sentance together. Its like Paula Abdul on Idol...whenever someone messes up, she comments on how they look.

I don't know why everyone is hating on the host so much, she's hot and she can't help what the telepromter is spitting out.

Agreed. If I were Trevor I'd hate it if I were the "resident cutie" but his film was bad so I don't care.

The host will get cooties by the end of the show with her touching all the contestants. I guess that's her schtick.

Heh, yeah. All of the contestants look very awkward when she comes over and tries to lock arms or something.

I should add I think 99% of girls are hot, the other 1% is reserved for my mom, nan etc.

I want Michael Bay to come back as a judge. All Carrie Fisher seems to say is that a film was "very good." And as soon as Garry Marshall opens his mouth, he always gives the impression that he's about to ramble on endlessly. This show should've had three hardcore judges from the start with the ability to be both informative and brutally honest.

Marty's film (or trailer or whatever) was the best out of the bunch this time. Finally someone stepped up with something other than a tepid comedy. Although it was short on character development (which would've been a task with only 2 and a half minutes to work with), it was never boring and was interesting to look at. I also liked how he stood up to Fisher and defended his work.

As for the worst, the films with Cupid and the single mother were pretty bad but Kenny's film was awful. Sure, it's different from the rest but it's different in a bad way and doesn't work well with what the show is about.

Also, Shalini should've been the one to go.

Wow, I've just lost my ****ing mind!!!! I was watching the short by Shira Lee ( I think that's it). It was so amateurish looking that even my wife was going nuts.

Then the judges come on and say that it's great.

I'm quitting. I give up. I'm selling all my gear and buying a Porsche. I have obviously lost touch.

Oh wait a minute...Carrie Fisher is one of the judges. Maybe I'll think about selling everything right now.

I do KNOW THIS.... I can't watch this show anymore. There is so much more talent on this forum than could ever be unleashed by the half-witts on this show (there are few exceptions).

Then to have Frankell come on and say that arrogance is good just blew my mind.

I'm out.

J.

PS-My wife just said, "I don't know if I've ever seen a worse reality show".

This coming from a woman that thinks WIFE SWAP is good TV.

the host is bad but shes so hot i dont listen to what shes saying anyway. man.....kenny with the short about the dead dad was AWFUL...................these judges are way too nice man.

carrie pissed me off tonight when the crowd started booing her after she said she wasnt feeling that guy's "dance with the devil" short. she pisse dme off because when the corwd booed her she comments and tells the guy "well, you are your biggest fan" just because he said he felt like he did a good job. all she wants to see are wacky comedies. i think i may stop watching this shyt.

I think these filmmakers do have talent. Making a movie in five days is not an easy thing, even if you already have a script ready to go. And they all seem to have made reasonably decent pictures for that kind of time restraint. Having said that, here are my thoughts on tonight's movies.

I WILL NEVER TAKE A CHANCE IN MY LIFE (AKA "POLISHED") - This movie was your typical safe entry. Impossible to hate. But impossible to love. He tried a little too hard to make you love the janitor. But then again it was only a 3 minute movie. Gary Marshall is right though, and it's something we should all remember. People love revenge movies. There's just something about getting someone back that audiences love.

STUPID CUPID MOVIE - It had a lot of potential. The cupid guy seemed funny at first. But the dialogue about the nerdy stuff went on too long. They were right about pacing. This movie was badly paced. What drives me nuts is that I'm not the best at understanding how to pace. I notice it when it's off. But I'm not exactly sure how to fix it. "Pacing" is another one of the criticism buzz words that anybody can say but no one can really tell you specifically what they mean.

WHORE MOM - I thought this film was dumb. It took too long to get to each of the people she had slept with. And once she did, their stories weren't that funny. Instead of showing all that running around and only getting to 3 people, she should've cut to 8 or 9 people in a very condensed amount of time. That to me is a funnier joke than three "don't call and don't wave" moments. To each his own though.

COCKY RETARD'S MOVIE - The judges got this one right. It was the epitome of style over substance. The guy has a nice eye and I like the look of his film, but isn't he just apeing Ridley Scott's Domino (and Man On Fire). I like his defense to Carrie Fischer's "style over substance" comment. "Well style over substance just happens to be my style." Uhhhhh, huh?

DEAD DAD O'RAMA - I'll say this about Kenny Luby, he has more unique style than anyone on this show. And sure he's making "poem videos" and they're a little over-sentimental and weird, but at least he's doing something different. He did have some kick-ass photography (guy standing by waterfall) and sometimes he relies too much on the same tricks (forward backwards motion, black and white), but so far out of all the people I'm always the most interested in seeing what he comes up with. Granted part of that is because I think he'll fall on his face. But at least he's going to fall swinging for the fences (word to you, "Polished").

My rankings:
1) Dead Dad O'Rama
2) Polished
3) Cocky Retard's movie
4) Whore Mom
5) Cupid is stupid

SIDE NOTE:
One thing I've noticed is all of the filmmaker's ability to use score. I don't have that ability and don't really know where to start. I think if I knew how to do that, I'd be right up there with these guys. When you're using a score, do you keep in mind beforehand how it's going to complement a certain shot? Or do you just shoot everything and figure it out later? Any references I can look to to get better at this?

kenny with the short about the dead dad was AWFUL

Kenny's movie: We are all dumber for having witnessed it. May God have mercy on our souls.
