I've been looking but haven't found exactly what i'm looking for. I'm not in need of a dimmer board, i need several indivdual ones to use for remote shoots. I've used them in the past but now I have to buy some and i'm not sure where to find them. Any ideas? My lights are the Lowel ominis and totas.

650watt hand squeezers can be built from scratch from Home Depot parts for ~$12, or you can go the router controller route from Harbor Freight, prebuilt 1500 watt dimmer for $25-$15 depending on the sale. Do a DVXUser search for all the details.

There is a low-end "studio" in town that has a bank of those and uses them as a "dimming console" I'm shooting on their white cyc this weekend, I should take a picture...

Hi guys:

I just picked up four more of the Harbor Freight 1,500 watt dimmers, they are now down to $9.99 ea.

What a deal.

I'm a moron... But in calling it a "1,500 watt dimmer," does that mean that it can be used as a dimmer for up to a 1,500 watt light? Thanks for suffering my stupidity.

You are correct Deadeyes... However, after using these dimmers now for over a year, they will burn out in time. These are not "industrial strength" products.
That said, where else can you get a 1500 watt dimmer for as low as $9.99 plus shipping? They are a great item, and I strongly suggest you purchase them. Like any light, giving them ( the dimmer)a break once in a while is a good thing, especially if you use it at it's max rating. ( I'm talking about tungstens here)
I have had issues with wireless mics while using them. Try plugging them on a longer ext. cord(stinger) from another room, and taking the coil out of the cord, and don't lay the power cord near your audio cables...No worries.

if one burns out, jsut takeit apart and find the offending wire or fuse. you can probably get it working again in a matter of a few minutes and a few bucks, with no need to wait for shipping.

Awesome! Thank you.

Even if they do burn out, at $9.99, not tooo hard to replace. I also have a couple of the Levitron, really nice $120.00 dimmers. Yes, they are better but the Harbor Freight ones are such a deal and work fine in most situations.

When I used them on my lights, the lamps started to buzz. Is that normal?

Does this happen at every location you set your lights up at ?
What type of light are you using, and if you have a mixture of different types of lights and manufacturers, does it happen with all of them ?
Does the buzz occur only after you dim your lights down say, 1/3rd of their working wattage? Will your lights buzz even if they are set to their highest wattage/output with the dimmer inline to the electrical outlet ?

I spent about $9 just buying a short heavy guage extension cord to hack up and build my own. I think all in all, I spent around $20 building one.

Here you go, its the "dimming console" from the white cyc studio I shot in this weekend:
