It is infact a DVX vs FX1 vs A1 thread.
I'm quite perlexed, and shooting a documentary in arkansas and later in mexico this year. My range is around three to four thousand, and if its possible I'd like to spend some on decent audio equipment or building a 35mm adaptor. Alot to ask for Im sure.
Now, let me give a disclaimer, because I am partial to the dvx. Being a film student Ive used it alot, and find it real nice to have 24PA all done before capture, though I doubt I'll ever use it for a film transfer, its all a great astetic look to me. And having shot things like dvxuser drama fest The Artist, I have some sentinentail bias. Downside, I am slightly dismayed at the not true 16:9 sensor. Also with this hd age comming upon us more and more, I want to take that into account, even if it be hdv or something like it.
Also, I do like the FX1. I shot a horror on it last year, and really liked the way it handled color, and 1080i. Plus I heard the other day (and felt stupid for not considering it before) that you can convert to 1080p in post pretty easily, and end up with more lines and therefore even more latitude. Also with it being out for a bit the price is pretty nice for hdv. I do realize though, that with it being mpeg2? that their will be alot of artifacts with motion, but I don't expect a camera to be perfect for all kinds of shooting.
I havent heard too much about the A1, but it has a pretty nice price point for having alot of the features of the H1, and I've allways been a big fan of Canon's optics and quailty, shooting with my trusty rebel in really rugged locations.
So there it is. I'm so perplexed. I'd love advice, what you guys prefer, what camera best fits the specificications, downsides considered. I really appreciate it. :zombie_smiley:
