S C H I T T E K A T T E R a Taylor Bryson Film

Hey T,

An honor to be on the Schittekatter Krewe.

I recall you mentioning you were getting deep into color correction. Can't wait to see the final print...

I feel bad for Herman and Sid because they did wall to wall scoring (as per my request). The music was great, but since it is such an actor driven "less is more" kind of piece we wound up simplifying and cutting back a great deal.

Most of the 'elements' of the score we composed are actually still in there, so I'm ending up being happy with it, and I agree on the 'less is more' philosophy - As a cinema fan I applaud that

Ok finally coming back to the land of the living after a rough night getting this thing locked and loaded.

Here's the quicky poster I did last night while the movie was rendering for the web (also on first post of thread now).

Great work, guys! Looking forward to it, or as my six-year old who likes to look over my shoulder when I'm on the computer, "that shi*ty Cat" movie. At least that's the way he pronounces it. He likes big words. :)

I just read the post about the homeland security. Jeez, I've seen a lot of stories like this during this round of films. Maybe it's just the genre? Well, people running all over the place with guns and blood and stuff, I guess there's a risk there.

Yeah man, that's looking awesome. You got some serious gear there, too!

After seeing that picture of that ONE guy, I think I'd take direction all the time, ha ha!

Can't wait to see it!!

Hey Taylor, glad to see you made it in, and nice simple poster as well, yet with a gritty feel to it. Also like the double meaning of the tagline, since we visibly see a wire/microphone. Cool stuff.

Thanks dude. Haha, looking forward to checking out your perfomance. Here is the evolution of one of the bloody grabs.

Posted a while back:

I think that exact frame is cut from the final. I spent 2 DAYS editing and re-editing the 30 seconds associated with this and had 5 versions I think. But anyway here is a new grab from the completed contest version with a mix of practical and post blood and final grading.

Well I got rushed near the end. Too many new systems to put online, software, monitors etc. :zombie_smiley: Plus lots of work that needed to be done on the sound as you are well aware. We got it there though. Thanks for your help man.

Glad you are happy. It is the same as you last heard except for the small cue that precedes the first time someone says SCHITTEKATTER. Wound up cutting that. I think I mentioned to you that I would probably go back and forth on that one until the last minute. I just listened to it on different speakers than I mixed it on and the music seemed to quiet. I am hoping it is just because these crappy other speakers have no bass response. Sorry if it is too quiet, it is a tough balance with the kind of subtilty we were going for. Seemed perfect on my headphones, so like I say I hope the only reason it seems to quiet now is the cheesy computer speakers i was listening on. In either case we can work on it after the fest until we are both happy. Thanks again to you and Sid for your work

Haha DON'T let him watch it unless you are the most liberal of parents. There is a poo poo load of poo pooing cuss words in this film. Like maybe almost every line, lol. I am looking at Norm's banner and wishing I had put a rating on my poster like that, and maybe a warning in my synopsis. Oh well.

We barely had the gun out. It was just that we had a giant camera set up near the levees and the Crescent City Connection (big suspension bridge).

heheh, thanks. The poster was done while Compressor was rendering my 1st and 2nd attempts of the web version of the movie, during the 11th hour right before I uploaded.

Thanks for the interest and support. Hope you guys enjoy it.

Wow, NICE compositing of post work into that ... very impressive! Looking foward to watching this ... should only be a matter of hours now. If I'm not mistaken, you've tweaked your banner further as well. Dig the new look!

Thanks.

Yeah I tweaked the banner a bit to match the final CC a bit more. Not exactly like the final CC but at least closer to the pallet.

OMG! WOW! What a great looking and edited film! Love it! I have more to write but I have to go re-download your film... :crybaby: IT STOPPED AT 4:45!!!

I'M ANXIOUS to see how this ends!!!!

Great, GREAT film so far!

This is a really good film. I really like it.

I thought the cinematography was fantastic for the one location. The angles were interesting and the shallow DOF was very filmic. Also the increased aspect ratio looked amazing.

The guy playing Robby can really act! The pacing of the dialogue was superb. The bookie was well cast.

I thought the story was simple but effective. It doesn't try to do too much and it effectively builds suspense. SPOILER I thought the ....got off a little to easy.

Congrats, this one will be up there for me. Great Job!

Wew hew! Congrats.. One of the better looking/story films I've seen so far. I really dug the shots as it set the mood of the film. LOVE shots where half the screen is filled with nothingness.

Music.. Herman and Sid... Damn fellas. Wonderful collaboration. Now to pick it apart to see who scored what :) The end cue was killer!

cheers Taylor!

Wow! Taylor.... well done! Shcit.... I'd work on a film with you anyday! That was great!

Nice, nice editing. Nice staging of the actors and action. Lovely camera work and cinematography.

Good for you! Can't wait to re-watch this!

I liked the look and feel of the flick, though to be honest i saw it coming with the ending the first part, not the final part (sorta) *if you seen it you know what I mean* i think i just confused everyone including myself...anyways, good film, and I now know what a Schittekatter is thanks lol

great music by sid and herman :D

cinematography was great, looked really good for just one location. I kinda missed the spyfest feeling though.

story was predictable but it it still kicked ass, it''s probably end up in my top 3 cause i already watched quite a few.

Ok. So this is one fine looking film, I gotta say. Kind of felt like I was watching a crime-drama on tv. Photography was absolutely beautiful and brilliant. Acting was top notch and what made it really cool was the casting of the characters. Each guy had their own distinct look and language/dialect/accent, and that really helps to sell the story.

As far as "seeing the ending coming", you know, as "obvious" as it may have been, I really wasn't 100% sure that the bookie was the rat. I feel that your film kept up the suspense enough to say to myself, "Yeah, it's probably the bookie, but I'm not sure."

Ok. So, now I don't like how it ends. I felt the bullet through the head/explosion thing was little over-the-top for the piece. I would have liked something less definitive, so that the story could go on long after the curtain, if you know what I mean. Maybe the young partner could then prove himself by being tasked with eliminating the bookie and that's how it ends. I don't know.

Oh, yeah, and I REALLY wanted to see one of those pool tables!

Good job! Enjoyed it! An excellent film!

Thanks for screening.

The first thing I noticed when I saw this was WOW- listen to that sound! (WHAT MIC DID YOU USE?!) The second thing was- WOW, visuals. Just, aesthetically, a great film here. Some have had good sound but lacking in visuals, some have had mediocre sound but great visuals, but this was great in both departments. It was very dialogue heavy but that's the nature of it, but that's not to say the story wasn't extremely interesting. It took something trivial (the pool table) and made it an important matter of the film. And the ending was really great, I don't want to give it away for those who haven't seen it.

Visually, it was very nice. Great DOF!
Loved the fact that you shot this in one location. Great story and even better acting! Really, great acting!

The only thing I found a tad fake was the beating that the guy received. Other than that this movie was excellent!

Top notch!

Mike
