24pa footage looks interlaced

this is a screen grab shot in 24pa. the footage is raw no cc'ing or any effects other than flipping the image. can someone explain to me how this specific take looks interlaced and the take i did before this one is fine? i've set all the parameters correctly in premiere pro (2.0). any info/advice would be greatly appreciated. by the way it was towards the beginning of the tape, even though i gave it about 30 secs of pre-roll. none of the other footage i shot has this problem. i just want to make sure it's nothing that i did unknowingly.....

thanks ahead of time,

derek

Sure that's a solution but he's asking why it does that, not how to fix it. 24p is progessive, there shouldn't be any interlacing.

yes i can deinterlace and it gets rid of it. it's not a big problem.... thank god! it was more of an increase my knowledge question, because i always understood that progessive is one full frame, like a still, that is not interlaced, and deinterlacing is being redundant which could make it worse.

I wish I understood. Like did it fix it correctly, or did it just deinterlace something that shouldn't have been interlaced in the first place....So you're saying that you de-interlaced it...so do you always de-interlace 24p. When do you de-interlace and when not...sorry, still trying to get a grip on the 24p.

haha yea me too barry...... fixing it correctly, to me, is i can't see the lines anymore with my eye. what i did was, i started and stopped the footage. i then took my slider and drug it across the footage. it doesn't do it anymore after the deinterlacing, and i never deinterlace 24p or 24p(a) footage because it isn't interlaced. which is kinda what's throwing me for a loop. i couldn't tell on my monitor while i was shooting it, which i guess is kinda hard anyway. none of the other footage on that tape is like that...... so i have no clue.

It's possible that when you captured it, something happened at the start of the capture of the clip which caused the 24p pulldown flags to be missed or read incorrectly. I'd suggest recapturing that clip, starting in a slightly different place.

you know, i actually thought of that. i feel like an idiot for not mentioning it. there was a slight hesitation in that tape even when watching it straight through. it was the only time i actually hit the stop record button in between tapes...... i do have another question though. it does seem to look fine when i deinterlace. the pulldown is still being removed because of the 24p timeline properties, so could it still possibly be the pulldown?

Deinterlacing 24p footage is only ever going to cause you problems, and at best you'll end up with footage having half the vertical resolution you should have.

If the footage was definitely shot as 24p, then you should be able to remove the pulldown. I'd recapture, and just for safety, capture within a 24p project. I"ve noticed that occasionally PP 2.0 can glitch just like this if you capture the footage while in a 60i project.

that's interesting. i'm 100% sure it's a 24p timeline and the pull down is removed. i opened a brand new 24p project. think you hit the nail on the head though when it possibly glitched when it started to capture because all of the other footage i captured, i captured on the same timeline and it was fine... c'est la vie!!!

you are absolutely right it says 29.97 (24p). so you think that's because of the capture error?

ok i will double check. the rest of the footage plays fine and is recognized as 24p in premiere. just as a side note: when i go back and just watch on the camera there is a crazy jittery jump between those takes where you see a flash of green and red really fast.

yes indeed!! you have been an invaluable help!! maybe one day when they get that whole knowledge tranfserance thing figured out we should hangout sometime!! :)

actually another question why is it that when i interpret my footage it says it 24p with 24p pulldown removed, but when i go to my properties it says 29.97? is that because of the timeline?
