First P2 screen grab, mixed colour temperatures

So here's my very first screen grab from the hvx. It's a jpg, so I guess there's some compression to it, but i'm mainly testing out lighting set ups.

Although there really isn't much to look at, i'm interested to hear what people think of the light on his face. I'm using a halogen light as an edge light and a 'cool light', which uses three energy saver flourescent bulbs balanced at 5000K, as a key. I like the soft look of the cool light, but i'm wondering what your thoughts are on the mixed colour temperatures.

Looks ok .. I'd flag off, dim, and or use a cookie (something to break up the light) on the light hitting the DVD's.. If possible distance him from the DVD's even more, and move him so the bookcase doesn't take up so much of the screen behind him, even a little more of the wall or a practical (lamp), computer screen, anything would be nice.. You can play with placing him on one side of the screen or the other aswell.. All dependent on your story..

The lighting is designed around the story you are telling.. If it's warm and fuzzy fealing story, then it doesn't fit.. But if it's a talking about movies, technology, a sad story, it can work..

Nice start..

Yeah, this isn't really anything other than sitting a friend down in my room. Seeing as it's covered with dvd's, I wasn't really concerned about the background at this point, mainly the face. So in this particular case, there is no story. But good point with the lighting design...once I actually start the project, this should suit a 'colder' story rather than a 'fuzzy feeling'.

The lighting seems a little flat and unfocused. I'd try for a more rembrandt setup and back off that fill light. The composition is a little strange, you cut right through his forehead. Your kicker is spilling on his cheek, I'd try and keep it on his shoulders and hair. I do like the soft quality of the light though.
