"On The Lot" tonight

well after idol it had 70% drop in ratings. its bad like around 7 million people.... not good. where csi and other get average 20-30 million viewers.

'Reality' shows can't die fast enough, to suit me. They're bad for employment, bad for contract negotiations, and, well, for the most part sucky stoopid lowest-common-denominator-lowering trash.

Personally, I'm sick and tired of them [Reality TV]. It's almost all that comes on TV nowadays, and the themes get more and more bizarre. All I watch now is Mythbusters.

Mythbusters is great...and The Deadliest Catch...both discovery channel shows.

Well really this week, I thought the tuesday night results episode was pretty pointless. I dvr'ed it, they litterally just repeated the judges comments from the previous nights, and just had the stalling for time, people standing waiting to hear their fate crap.

But I was pretty peeved when the non-film school wolverine looking guy stayed, I really don't like that guy, not a team player he would be off my set like woah.

Anyone watching it? I wanted to but I have a dang shoot tonight.
In light of the way this show's turned out, I think it's hilarious to return to Aram's initial comment. Aram, my friend, *any* "dang shoot" is a better way to spend your time than watching "On The Lot"!

The one good thing about reality tv is that the american audience has accepted lower quality video images on TV. You no longer need film like images to sell an idea.

Yeah, and YouTube has lowered that bar south of the toilet.

Its not ideal for the artistic side of things but it opens the door for so many more people who have the ideas and drive but don't have access to the professional equipment. Sure alot of crap comes through but some good stuff that would normally have not seen the light of day also comes through. And that is because Reality TV made digital an acceptable medium to the publics taste.

But isn't it depressing that a DP spends years honing his craft, days planning and then shooting beautifully composed scenes, but the public is just as happy watching a camcorder video of some doofus getting hit in the balls. I fear someday in the not too distant future real film artistry is something that's only going to be seen in museums.

I think with increased bandwidth youtube quality can only improve, and that's where good DP's will shine.

some people appreciate the artistry inlvolved while others just want a quick laugh. everyone can see that monet was a great painter, but not everyone enjoys going to an art exhibit. i don't have any problem with it.

Just because someone enjoys one doesn't mean they are incapable of enjoying the other. I like dumb and dumber, and I like the discovery channel's Planet Earth. I like Bad Boys II and I like Memoirs of a Geisha.

There is a place for both and they are very different.

Also it should be noted that top videos on youtube are usually made top by Junior Highers and High Schoolers in their school's computer lab when they are suppossed to be doing research projects.

I don't think youtube is going to make cinematrophy and art in films extinct :)
