House of Pain Trailer

I thought it looked kind of interesting. Some of the acting seemed like it would be in a pornography movie or something.

Well cut trailer, however it seemed kind of rediculous how the guy was like "So we really have to go into this haunted house?" It kind of makes the viewer go like "Wait, what the hell just happened? Their going into a haunted house now?"

I just think the concept was kind of unoriginal, it's just like a different spin on Hostel or Saw or something.

(Not meant to be taken offensively. Just constructive criticism)

none taken.....

this was conceived around the same time those movies came out, just took us a bit longer to get it out there.

Anyways..... the short will show why they go to the haunted house, just didn't want to put too much into the trailer.... its only 17 mins, the short that is.

We will have our work cut out for us to differentiate ourselves from hostel when we do the feature, but there is a story there, not just a kill for money movie.

Hey Mike, just watched it. Nice job, good to see what you're up to.

I wouldn't have that 3 note motif running through the whole trailer. It ruins the suspense IMO. I'd find a good place to stop that music...I mean you have it running when he's trying to ask that chick out and also when we hear screams and "how scary is this going to be".

Cut it somewhere, add some really bassy low hits and some more sound and wierd gliss'ing strings...metalic noises...anything creepy. That's just what I'd do, anyway. I can hear some suspenseful strings etc. being brought in at that end part, but it's not effective since that 3 note thing has been running the whole time. Gaps are important - changes of music/moods in a horror trailer especially - that's the thing that builds tension.

By the way, cool poster.

i might just drop the music lower in certain instances and add some more sound effects.... i kinda like the music throughout as it gives a mysterious feel to the trailer IMO.

I'm going to clean up the audio a bit.... its just not my strong suit. :)

Yeah I'm gonna have to say that i'm not digging the little melody thing going on. It just makes it feel, well, not scary at all. I also didn't like the FL Studio thump echo sound whenever you would cut to the haunted house(?). I agree with a previous poster that the acting was pretty bad, especially the end with "I'll skull F*** you!". Maybe it was just the music but i Laughed pretty loud at this line.

Anyways, that's all of my criticisms. Trailers don't represent final quality so i'm sure your film will turn out alright, i just wish that your music selection was alittle bit scarier.

Good Luck!

I have another piece that i might try, but to me, again, i think it makes it seem mysterious....

I'll keep plugging away :)

Mike if you need a hand with some music, give me a shout by either PM or email: chrishurn [at] gmail.com. I've got a bit of free time coming up.
