PCMCIA HDD in P2 slot?

Since the P2 card is compatible with pcmcia on a notebook, can a pcmcia HDD be connected directly into the P2 card slot on the HVX?

I understand that direct recording to a hard drive through firewire requires software to instruct the HDD how to record. That is why the firestore and citidisk are 20 times the price of a HDD.

From what I can see though the p2 cards are simple dump SD memory with the software in the HVX not the memory card.

Am I incorrect in this? Is there a firmware chip on the p2 card?

Yes there's firmware, an LSI, a RAID controller... the P2 is about as opposite of "simple SD memory" as you can get.

gotcha. I wonder if it is possible to hack a p2 card and by pass the I/O to the actual memory modules and re route them to a larger storage device.
Does panasonic have schematics for p2 card architechture available for 3rd party developers?

They've said they'll license the technology to developers, but there's nothing publicly available.
