Great trailer for snowboard video

Jibs are derigeur these days. The increase in the quality of the cinematography in these movies is amazing.

Yeah, because all of the 16mm snowboarding movies that have come out in the last 5-6 years were such poor quality

nice as hell! really reare to see someone do something interesting with extreme sports!!!

do i see a steadicam in there?

Has no one else ever seen any decent snowboard videos? Lots of really interesting cinematography has been going on with snowboarding videos for a decently long time...snowboarding companies have HUGE budgets now, just because there is so much money in the industry, and thus the quality of the videos have gone up big time...

NoCoast,

I guess it depends how long you have been following snowboard vids, I tuned out around TB7 but I know for a fact that last time I checked out the snowboard vid scene it wasn't winning any oscars. I guess they must have stepped it up a bit! Actually I know things have changed cos MackDawg would have choked themselves on their own cameras rather than use electro music last time I watched one.

What do you recommend for interesting cinematography?

huge budgets...no. they have some money. some are pretty cool, there not that interesting. robot food did some pretty cool stuff with there movies, mack dawg is doing some diffrent stuff now and shooting all hvx pretty much...I donno thers some stuff thats a bit interesting but in terms of cinematography most isnt that exciting, mack dawgs thing this year is kinda new lots of camera moves thats not usually done, nothing mind blowing though. there isnt any more money in the industry now then there was actually there is less. I heard standard (one of the top snowboard film prod. companies) has cut dvd distribution in half in the last few years they used to do well over 100,000 copies now its like 60,000. the fact mack dawg is shooting all hvx goes to show that....its alot cheaper then 16mm to get a few hvxs. the fact snowboard movies are more ineresting now is do to editing and people just being more creative with the camera.

some neat movies would probably be 91 words for snow, LAME, follow me around, and then this years stuff well see. the guys who did 91 words are doing another thing so that will probably be cool.

Wow, I think thats the best cinematography I've ever seen in a snowboard flick.

Any idea how they shot those dolly shots? One over a rail gap and one through the trees. How'd they do that without seeing the dolly equipment?

that's no dolly. That is shot with a cable cam. The guys who made Elekrep came up with the idea. That is the best film in sowboarding ever. Wathc th trailer... it gives me goosebumps.

I'm sorry, that was AWESOME! Dude, I would love an HD version of that!
ALL with the HVX?? You sure? There are some shots that look like SONY Z1, and some that look like VARICAM?

Anyway, love the shot when he jumps over the pit, and the camera is in front of him.. Screws with the mind on how that shot was done..

Your DP(s) have quite a future ahead of them!

I think you are wrong about the origin of the cable cam.
First time i saw it was in New world disorder III from 2002, but its been around
a lot longer than that.
Darcy Wittenburg from The Collective, has taken it to new hights with
movies like The Collective and Roam.

There is some shots of the rig in the roam teaser:

This might be like taking sides with the nazis during WW2, during what I'm about to post on this site. But I really do become sad when I see companies (mack dawg productions) which use to be faithful to 16mm film jump over to digital video.
Thats what I loved about watching snowboard films when I was growing up, the beauty of film cinematography. Luckily the New World Disorder series, kranked series, The Collective and Roam is still shot on film, most if it at least. And I do own them all :)

Smetti, I think as the trailer shows the cinematography level has not gone down with Mack Dawg moving over to digital video, if fact it looks like it has gone up.
I think the progression to a digtal camera such as the HVX-200 just makes sense.
Why spend all the time and money on film when you can have a camera that can shoot just as well (actually I like the look better) and make things easier for yourself. Also this video is going to be offered on HD DVD when it is released which will be the first snowboard film that I know of to do that and again it just makes sense to shoot something like for HD DVD on HD.

Sick sick video. I remember growing up watching old VHS videos and they were good but this is unbelievable. I want to buy this video.
