Thanks guys. I'm getting a rough edit done this weekend so I can see just where my FX need to be. I could have done even more reshoots, but I limited myself to only doing the shots that were technically unusable (didn't zoom in far enough with my 35mm adapter - d'oh!).
If you don't mind me asking...exactly how big is your poster. I never quite got around to making one yet and I'm not a photoshop expert to say the least.
The original of the poster is 13"x17" at 300dpi so I could print it out when this is all done. For posting purposes, I resized it to about 520 pixels wide at 72dpi then used Save For Web to generate the JPEG file to make it a web-friendly file size. You probably don't have to start out that big, though. I find starting at least 2 - 3 times larger than what I want to end up with helps as it gives me more room to breathe. You can always go smaller, but making it bigger is harder.
How many days left? I'm running a little behind in the FX department, mostly because I was going into it without a solid plan. I just made a list and hopefully will have a more productive night. I was really hoping to be further along than this.
On the bright side, my rough cut is clocking in at 5:49, so I have some room to breathe and maybe have a few credits that are longer than a blink.
Thanks for asking. As of 10:38 PM I am calling my SFX done. I may go back in a tweak for my own DVD release, but I can't spend any more time on it now. I haven't even started sound and music  And, I don't even want to think about the CC - - I'm not throwing in the towel, but I don't know what shape this is going to be in Thursday night.
And she slides under the rapidly closing gate to turn in her entry.
Whew. I didn't think I was going to be done at all. I bit off more than I could chew with my VFX, and as such, I had to do quick and dirty color correction (God bless Magic Bullet) and fire up SonicFire Pro to score the flick. I felt like I needed to get it in some sort of acceptable and submittable shape since my family has done so much to support this project, and to give up at the last minute wouldn't be fair.
So, there you have it. I'll be glad to hear what you all think. I plan on going back to it and polishing it up, maybe enlisting a composer. But, I wouldn't be this far along with it if it weren't for this fest, so thanks to all those who put it together!
I'm looking forward to seeing everyone elses films! Have a good weekend!
A nice little film. I'll have to show this one to my kids and get their feedback on it. I too was amiss as to what was said at the end. I think it said that the conduit was Blue Hawk's mother?
I like the technology stuff and the scene at the beach. Not sure about the "don't engage him in open spaces" thing, but maybe because he could move fast?
The photography was top notch in my book. Loved the look. Very cool, pastel. Perfect for a spy movie starring a couple of kids.
Thanks for the feedback everyone. Since I know what is going on in that final scene, I guess I just took for granted what was said. Also, it goes along with what he is reading, which isn't as clear as it could be. I'll keep your feedback in mind for when I polish this piece up, maybe reshoot the CU and dialogue so it is more clear.
The laptop was really funny! Her typing was great. I found myself smiling alot.
I also loved the featuring of iChat in the movie, rock on.
The "GIRL" special report was very cool. I loved all the gadgets and especially the dialogue! Very spyish and cool.
Although the delivery had some slip ups, it ended up just being fun to watch.
There's a really great shot when "GIRL" walks into frame, her expression is just really cool. Alot of fun to watch and the end where it's like the parents don't know they're spies...
Standard Disclaimer: I've watched half of the films so far and have yet to see a bad film. Congratulations to every film maker, everyone did a great job. All my comments and criticisms are meant to be constructive and helpful and in no way am I trying to take anything away from what you accomplished.
Good: I hate to sound like a 45 year old mom (especially since I'm a 23 year old dude), but this film was very cute. I got a kick out of seeing these little actors in action. For a small film like this, I'm sure there's no need to worry about copyrights and name brands, that being said, good use of available technology to adapt spying to the kids (ichat, ipod, google map, flash drive, etc.) If you added some split screens in there I'd think it was 24 doing a spin off on Jack and Chloe when they were kids. The agent blue hawk profile cracked me up, very cool.
Not as Good: Maybe add a little bit more back story as to what's on the flash drive that she must recover and why she needs to recover it.
I'm a 35 year-old guy, no kids, and I'm not ashamed to say it was cute. Very creative, tons of compositing work, very humorous premise. The kind of thing where you'll think about it later and appreciate the situational humor more and more. No awards for acting, but that's just fine -- very nice work.
