Help! Duel Adaptor w/ MacBook Pro crashing, not visible

I'm getting really sketchy results w/ the adaptor on my MBP. All my software is fully updated.

Sometimes the adaptor works fine, other times, it crashes the computer when I insert a new card (Write Protect tab on). Sometimes I can't see the P2 card on the desktop and have to restart multiple times. This is hell on set!

Any ideas?

I have the same issue. Turns out they don't have a driver yet for OS 10.4.9 It will only work for 10.4.8. I found this info on the Duel Systems website under downloads. It might be your issue or not. What is your OS?

For me the DuelAdapter has been a huge letdown. Is there an easy way to rollback to 10.4.8? I'd be willing to try that if it could get this thing working for me.

Which drivers have you installed? For example, have you installed the new Panasonic Intel drivers and the AJ-PCD20 drivers as well?

Are you running 10.4.9? That is a big issue if you are.

I installed Cynic's 10.4.9 drivers as well as the Panny Intel drives and the AJ-PCD20. I was able to offload 1 card and then I couldn't get my MBP to recognize the Duel any longer. I'm ready to back up to 10.4.8 or install OSX on an external drive just to get the thing to work but I'm a bit of a Mac newby and don't know how to do either of those. I'm thinking I might schedule some time at the genius bar for help on that.....

I read that to mean that you had to reboot the MBP after removing the adapter?? Regardless, I've been through multiple reboots with no luck.

Can't find the warning you're referring to, what does it say?

I have gotten my Duel Adapter working well now with 10.4.9, but it does take some patience and you must follow some extra proceedures. Make sure that you have installed all the drivers from panasonic. I then installed the driver from Cynic, but I to could only get it to work one time initially. I re-installed and was carefull to read the instructions. It is crutial that you follow the right order to keep from having to reboot. I played around with every senario of order and once you get the flow you can get it to work. I believe it is that you have to plug the adapter in first without the card. Then the card. If it doesnt work remove the P2 and unplug and replug the card - I have had to do that a couple times. Once it recognizes the P2 you must eject the P2 and then remove it WITHOUT removing the adapter. You can replace with another P2 as long as you do not unplug the adapter. Once you do that you may need to reboot.
Hope this helps, but rest assured it can work well once you get the flow down. I am very happy with the blazing speed of the transfer with the duel-adapter once you get it working. Im sure with everyone on it this quirk will be fixed very soon.

for those of you wanting to run 10.4.8, you should create a new partition on your hard drive and install it there (to save drive space dont install any uneccessary stuff like iLife -keep it bareboned) then you can choose which hard drive you want to boot from. In fact you can even install it on a external boot drive and run it from there if all you are doing is downloading P2s.

Thank you Cynic!

Thank you Cynic!

Great idea- thanks for the tip!

And a big thanks to Cynic for his driver !

I haven't used it extensively yet, but the card reader is working for me under 10.4.9 with all the correct drivers installed. The procedure does seem to be crucial. I'd rather not go back to 10.4.8 on my brand spanking new MBP.

Of course the real question is still - Why doesn't Duel Systems have a 10.4.9 driver yet???

Where can I get Cynic's driver?

I am looking for the driver from cunic that seems to be the difference maker. It is reffered to several times above but there is not direct link to it...
Can one of ya'll post a link to it please?

I have 2 MBP, identical- on one it works great, can't get the other to work, looking at the solutions left- remove all and reinstall OSX 4.9 ? Is that what is left?
By the way, Cynic - can't thank you enough for this help, Chuck.

my pleasure. maybe try removing the drivers for both, then restart, then reinstall both , restart.

also be sure nothing is plugged into the laptop when starting. who knows, could be that a usb cable plugged in while starting does something that prevents that from working. ive seen stranger.

last friday on set, my success with the duel adapter ended. My macbookpro with a firewire 800 drive plugged to take the card dumps crashed. It crashed in all kinds of ways. It would transfer data then freeze up after 2 gigs or so or choke when i just plugged in another card. Even when i removed it out of the adapter after ejecting it from the mac.

Tried to figure it out saturday. failed.

It was awesome for the few weeks it worked. Dont understand why it just quit.

Thats very odd.

Thats the exact setup we worked wtih last weekend in SF. A Firewire 800 bus powered drive and duel adapters, dumping around 80gb of footage, not a single bite lost and i only had to restart twice becuase i was neglagent in using the Macbook Pro a little bit. But no big deal.

FW800 worked great as well , dump speed was very fast!
