My DP reel - HVX200

to be perfectly honest. i think you could tighten it up a whole lot more. some of your shot selections i found very uninspiring. So word of advice, employers are very critical and would probably not hire you if they saw this. Some of the content comes off very amateurish. No offense. Sorry to sound like an ass, but yeah. Work on it some more. Which reminds me that I need to update mine.

i agree. also looks as if it was shot in SD (which aint a bad thing) or there was some bad compression for web viewing. i didnt think the music went to well with the images either. most of the stuff looked like comedy so i'd probably have used something from a comedy soundtrack/score. just my opinion though.

I appreciate the feedback. I'm definately still trying to get some more standard, "professional" looking stuff. Some of this stuff is cartoony; it's the style we wanted, but it limits what people think you can do.

You'd probably be right if I wasn't consistently working and being hired. Maybe the market is a little different in your neck of the woods.

ah touche! With you being in LA than I can see that happening. I live in Seattle and the market is a whole lot different. I would probably say that we are small potatoes Although I managed to beat those odds because I too am consistently working as well.

I really don't see anything that should get you a job as a dp. Sorry, the only thing that was of any real interest was toward the end with the chick and shadows.

Make two reels, keeping the narrative and EPK stuff separate.

This seems to be the most helpful advice so far. Do you mean keep the paintball stuff seperate from everything else? That's the only thing I can think you mean.

Maybe you could offer some advice here? Anything specific that you can help me out with?

I think I'm doing all right for a first year DP/shooter, but I'll be the first to admit I have a long ways to go.

Take a look at the lighting that is being used here...

He is using shadow and light to really paint a picture.
From what I saw on your reel, most of it looked like you just set up random shots and shot them.
I see it all of the time with stunt people that really don't have a stunt reel, they go out in the backyard and shoot things.
I am not saying you don't have talent but it isn't really present on your reel.
