Record uncompressed 14-bit (4:4:4) on your HVX200

Great thread Juan and thanks for all the info.

Without exact dates, could you say this project is 90 days out to first examples? More less? and then is it another 90 to 120 days for production units?

I think having a rough idea of the timeline would really help all of us that are impatiently waiting for you to "wow" us with some examples.

Thanks,
Rob

Actually, a simple search on dvxuser or the Reel-Stream forum will show that we posted a resolution chart over a year ago, available here along with the same rez chart shot on different prosumer HD cams:
http://forum.reel-stream.com/viewtopic.php?t=363

This rez chart was shot with an Andromeda DVX100A and no other accessories. Also note that this was processed with an early version of our software, there have been several new versions since then.

Once we have Hydra+HVX finalized we will post resolution and latitude tests, as we have done in the past. The HVX certainly has more resolving power than the DVX, specially in the horizontal axis.

Cheers,
Juan

Interesting chart shots.

I counted:

650x650 Z1
800x700 HD100
700x650+ HVX200
800x650 Andromeda (pretty good for a SD camera).

Hmmm....

I read:

Andromeda: 800H 725V easy
HVX: 600H 700V
Z1: 600H 700V
HD100 700H 600V (confusing V rez)

Very impressive.

Juan (or anybody else for that matter),

I know you said the potential exists to implement Hydra into most prosumer camcorders. I also know you're working very hard just to kick things off with the HVX, so I'm not trying to rush you in other directions. But can you speculate on the potential of the Canon XH-A1 w/ Hydra? I don't own the camera, nor do I know much about the technical aspects of it. I do, however, like the image it puts out. I'm just having a hard time getting over the colorspace limitations of HDV. So naturally, when I start to get hung up on that aspect, my mind begins to wander over to the possibilities of a Hydra-like acquisition system.

Any thoughts?

Is there any chance that the hvx with hydra will have a picture like the Si-2K when using a 35mm adaptor and good lens?

Honestly, i think the latest crop of 35 adpters can handle the res issue. they are all resolution lossless in terms of HD resolution. i cant imagine 2k (which is marginally higher than 1080p) running into softness issues.

Timur...marginally higher than 1080? I thought it was more than marginal. How much more res does it have percentage wise?

2K? 2K is 2048 x 1536, at maximum 4:3 resolution. But that's rarely ever used, usually you're looking at 2K as 1.85:1. For 2K at 1.85:1, it's 2048 x 1107.

As opposed to 1080P, which is 1920 x 1080.

So you're looking at an extra 128 pixels in width, and 27 pixels in height. Expressed in terms of percentage, 2K has about 9.3% more resolution.

But don't forget that earlier in the thread we leared that the actual rez may end up being as high as 2200 x 1080. Right, Barry?

Ooh, la la!

It's all sounding very interesting. If Hydra delivers what it's promising it could be great. But has Juan mentioned when it will be available? So far I have only seen people speculating. Juan?

We're looking at the public version being released during the second half of 2007. It really depends on how long the beta stage takes, although we expect it to be a lot shorter than Andromeda given that a lot of the system as already been tested and created such as most parts of SculptorHD, etc.

About resolution, the potential is there for 2200x1100 or so. Main concerns are the lens at wide settings and non-standard aspect ratio. As always we will give users the option to shoot the full capabilities of the imager block, whether it fits any standard ratio or not.

Cheers,
Juan

Anyone want to go there? Anyone? Anyone?

And when is the beta stage starting?

How long did it take for Andromeda?

Sorry if this belongs elsewhere, but I figured it was appropriate...

I've done my research through the search feature on purchasing a gray market HVX, and though I've found plenty warning of bait and switch/upsell/really slow processing and shipping, I've found very little consistent information on the actual quality of the product (if it's ever been delivered).

I understand that it will not be covered by a US warranty, but I am planning on getting the Hydra mod, so that's not an issue for me. If the seller assures that it is a new in box product and not a referb, then does it being gray market really have an effect on someone looking to immediately void the warranty with Hydra?

I've also read of issue with the menu being in a different language, but can't that be easily remedied through the menu settings?

Thanks for any and all info!

Odds are the grey market camera you get in the US will be in English. HVX pricing have fluctuated quite a bit at the gray-market level so you can come away with a good deal if you're planning on getting the Hydra mod. Just make sure that you find a store that's reliable by checking out resellerratings.com . There was someone here earlier who came away with an HVX for $3800. The camera you get will work fine, should come with all the accessories but none of the rebate goodies.
