Avid Capture as waveform monitor?

I was reading about someone using a laptop running FCP as a portable waveform monitor while shooting, because it can monitor while capturing. I looked around Avid but couldn't figure out a way to do it. Is there a way to view waveforms while capturing with Xpress Pro? Or am I stuck buying a program like DV rack?

Thanks,
- David

you can open the waveform and vectorscope in capture tool and monitor inpout levels.
Unfortunatly, Avid still dosn't provide scopes for output. There is a quazi scope i the color corrector and some plugins you can render. I'm till totin old external scopes.

Can you tell mehow to open the waveform in the capture tool? I can't find it. I can see them in the color corretor, but not the Capture tool.

Thanks,
- David

it's the little scope-lokin icon onthe top row in your digitize tool. It's called video tool. click it and you'll have control over input video levels. Clik the two scope icons at the top of video tool and you'll have real time input scopes.

After looking around the help, I realized that you need an Avid Mojo to monitor those. *sigh* oh well. It's on my list... when I get the money...

Thanks for the help, Grinner.

No, I'm capturing to tape.

why did Avid never see the need to incorporate scopes as a window one could keep open while working?
Seems like that would have made it in the mix before things like metadata.

There is a plug-in to do that. As far as metadata, I would argue that it is more important since external plug-ins and solutions can never do it for you.

I have not found a waveforem/vectorscope plugin worth using yet. If you have a link to something thats realtime and not on the external monitors, I'd love to scoop it up and hawk my old external scopes from the 80s.
